EDUCATIONAL SIGN LANGUAGE INTERPRETER, NON-LEVELED
Wage:
$15.87 /hour.
Location:
Inverness
JOB GOAL
To appropriately interpret for students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing in a variety of settings.
JOB DUTIES
Consult with teachers and aides working with the Deaf or Hard of Hearing population. Interpret for Deaf or Hard of Hearing students in classroom, small group and meeting settings. Participate in IEP committee meetings as appropriate. Work in small groups or individually with assigned student(s). Prepare a substitute interpreter folder with necessary student information and materials. Perform other tasks consistent with the goals and objectives of this position. Perform job responsibilities with sustained focus and attention to detail for extended periods of time. Prepare in advance for lessons based on classroom teacher lesson plans. •
QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma or equivalent Parapro Test, or 60 college credit hours Interpreting experience (one of the following preferred): a. Completion of sign language skills training. b. Documentation of sign language training, experience and exposure.
MAINTENANCE
Within two years employee must have earned: 1. Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) Level 1 or 2. 2. Complete 40 hours of professional development activities. 3. Maintain current validity period of appropriate certification.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Demonstrates competency in the knowledge of professional ethics for interpreting. Demonstrates proficiency in interpreting and transliterating, sign to spoken English and spoken English to sign. Capable of facilitating communication between students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing in one-toone and small group situations, which the content ranges from informal to moderately technical. This individual will function under close supervision of an individual having professional interpreting skills and knowledge of deafness. Willingness to submit to fingerprinting, background check and drug screening
