Qualifications & Desired Experience:
Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) Experience interpreting in K-12 educational settings is highly valued Ability to facilitate communication between deaf/hard-of-hearing students, staff, and peers Understanding of educational terminology and protocols Certification as an interpreter (RID, NIC, or equivalent) preferred Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills Adaptable, with the capacity to respond dynamically to classroom needs
Key Responsibilities:
Interpret spoken language into sign language (and vice versa) in classroom and school activities Support students' understanding of curriculum content, classroom discussions, and social interactions Collaborate with teachers, aides, and specialists to promote inclusive education Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times Prepare for lessons by reviewing materials and familiarizing yourself with subject matter Advocate for effective communication access and accommodations This contract position offers a unique chance to use your expertise in sign language interpretation to open doors for students and support their growth in an educational setting.
