Job Description

Make a meaningful impact in a students educational journey by providing specialized support as a Sign Language Interpreter in a Head Start setting. This contract opportunity, located near Hammond, IN, is ideal for professionals passionate about fostering communication and inclusion for students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing (DHH). As an on-site interpreter, you will be a critical bridge for a young learner, working directly at the Head Start center in Crown Point, IN, from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM Monday through Friday, for a total of 30 hours each week. Your expertise in sign language will help ensure the student has equitable access to learning and classroom experiences.
Qualifications and Experience:
Proficient in American Sign Language (ASL) and experienced in educational interpreting Holds relevant certifications or credentials as a Sign Language Interpreter Background in supporting DHH students in school or early childhood settings is highly valued Comfortable working one-on-one and adapting interpreting style to meet a young childs needs Professional, reliable, and able to collaborate with the educational team
Responsibilities & Duties:
Provide direct sign language interpretation for a DHH student throughout the school day Facilitate communication between the student, teachers, and peers in classroom and activity settings Support the students understanding of instruction, social interactions, and school routines Maintain confidentiality and align with best practices and ethical standards for interpreters This contract role offers a meaningful day-time schedule, with an opportunity to make a positive impact in a nurturing early childhood environment.
