Job Description
Title Interpreter for Deaf/Hard of Hearing Purpose Principal and/or Teacher of the Deaf Supervision Principal and/or Teacher of the Deaf Required Qualifications A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent. ESSE Certification or equivalent (Level 4 certification). Requires the ability to collaborate, be a team-player, and uphold professional and ethical standards. Fluency in SEE, ASL, or other manual communication language. If assigned to a Title I school, you must have one of the following: 48 hours of college credit, or successfully complete the Para Pro assessment test. General Responsibilities 1. Manages all job duties to work with students in various circumstances inside and outside with mobility to move from place to place. 2. Has agility and dexterity to focus on students and student activities. 3. Agility and dexterity to manually move, lift, pull or push objects. 4. Has agility and quick response to emergency situations. 5. Able to work in moderate environmental conditions and noise levels. 6. May be required to wear protective garments and/or gloves for exposure control under limited circumstances. Essential Duties 1. Maintains the confidentiality of students and their families. 2. Assists in the implementation of Individual Education Programs for the students and monitors their progress. 3. Communicates with a variety of school staff for the purpose of implementing IEP objectives. 4. Translates verbal communication for the purpose of assisting students, teachers, and parents in communicating effectively between voice to sign and sign to voice. 5. Instructs students, individually or in small groups, under the supervision of the teacher for the purpose of implementing goals and improving student success by the conversion of language to SEE or ASL.
