Key Qualifications:

Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) with proven proficiency in both receptive and expressive interpretation Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) score as required by state guidelines or national certification (RID or equivalent) Experience providing sign language interpretation in a K-12 school or educational environment is highly preferred Ability to interpret in a variety of academic and extracurricular settings, including classrooms, assemblies, and meetings Strong understanding of confidentiality and professional ethics related to interpreting Adaptability, patience, and a commitment to inclusive education

Primary Responsibilities:

Interpret spoken language into sign language (and vice versa) to support effective communication for deaf and hard-of-hearing students Assist teachers by translating lectures, instructions, and class discussions Foster and maintain clear, respectful, and supportive communication among students, teachers, and staff Prepare for interpreting assignments by reviewing lesson materials and collaborating with educational teams Support students' social interaction during both academic and non-academic activities Maintain accurate records and documentation as required
