Educational Sign Language Interpreter - Beaufort, South Carolina

Job Description

Step into an impactful role supporting students as a Sign Language Interpreter during the 2026-2027 school year. In this contract position, you'll work 37.5 hours per week, empowering Deaf and Hard of Hearing students across one of several dynamic educational settings. With multiple locations available including May River High School, Bluffton Middle School, Robert Smalls Leadership Academy, and Battery Creek High School, you'll become a valued member of a dedicated school community beginning August 3, 2026 through May 28, 2027.
Qualifications & Desired Experience:
Hold a minimum 3.5 EIPA (Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment) score Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) Experience interpreting in K-12 or educational settings preferred Ability to maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and rapport with students and staff Flexibility and adaptability in various school environments
Key Responsibilities:
Provide accurate, expressive, and receptive ASL interpretation for students and school staff Facilitate clear communication between Deaf/Hard of Hearing students and their peers, teachers, and administrators Collaborate with special education teams to ensure equitable student access to curriculum and school activities Support student engagement, social interaction, and participation in classroom and extracurricular activities Adhere to professional and ethical standards for educational interpreters Experience growth and fulfillment by bridging communication for students and helping them access their education fully.
