Job Summary:
As a Spanish Medical Interpreter, you will: Provide accurate, professional interpretation between Spanish-speaking patients, families and visitors and Lexington Health staff and providers. Help patients and families understand medical procedures, treatment plans, discharge instructions, patient education and follow-up care. Provide sight translation of appropriate materials when needed. Support effective communication between patients, families and care teams by recognizing and appropriately addressing cultural considerations. Interpret medical, business and general terminology while maintaining the accuracy and intent of the original message. Protect patient privacy and confidentiality while following professional ethical standards. Respond to interpretation requests through ServiceHub and provide timely assistance throughout the organization. Maintain and continually strengthen Spanish and English language proficiency, medical terminology and interpreting skills. Participate in continuing education and professional development opportunities. Remain calm, compassionate and culturally sensitive when working in high-pressure or emotionally intense situations. Travel to other Lexington Health facilities as needed. Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent. At least 1 year of professional Spanish medical interpreting experience. Excellent verbal communication skills in both English and Spanish. Strong listening, analytical and short-term memory skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate sound professional judgment. Ability to work effectively in fast-paced and emotionally sensitive healthcare situations.
Certification:
CCHI certification is preferred but not required at the time of hire. National certification through the Certification Commission for Healthcare Interpreters (CCHI) is required within the first year of employment. Must complete or have completed Bridging the Gap medical interpreter training and proficiency testing upon hire.
