Job Description

Degree in American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreting, certified ASL Interpreter credentials, and 1+ year of experience as an ASL Interpreter in educational settings. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered. Looking for a meaningful way to use your sign language expertise? This contract opportunity calls for motivated Sign Language Interpreters to support students across two educational campuses, starting the 2026-2027 school year. These positions will collaborate closely with students, teachers, and staff, ensuring clear communication and full participation for deaf and hard-of-hearing students in all school activities. In this role, you'll provide essential interpretation during classroom instruction, extracurriculars like choir, dance, and cheerleading—and at critical meetings such as ARDs. One full-time opening covers junior high (9am-4:30pm, Mon-Fri), while a flexible part-time role is available to ensure coverage for after-school and seasonal activities.
Desired Experience & Credentials:
Current interpreter certification from either the Registry for the Deaf or Texas Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Valid Texas driver's license Experience with children, ideally in school or educational settings Ability to adapt to each student's communication style and needs Willingness to complete fingerprinting for credentialing if not previously done
Responsibilities Will Include:
Interpreting during instruction, meetings, and special events across assigned schools Assisting with tutoring hearing-impaired students as needed Supporting students during extracurricular activities, including seasonal events Helping monitor and manage student behavior and stepping in during crisis situations Maintaining confidentiality of all student information and adhering to district policies Participating in ongoing professional development and team meetings You'll gain unique rewards, from professional development opportunities to meaningful relationships with students and educators.
