Job Description
Category Schools - Sign Language Interpreter Job Type Contract Looking for a meaningful opportunity to utilize your skills as an American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter in a dynamic school environment? This contract-based, on-site position offers the chance to make a real impact in the lives of students throughout Northern Virginia. You'll join a flexible, as-needed pool of dedicated interpreters supporting students in K-12 settings. Schedules are currently part-time and on-call, with hours and school assignments varying according to district needs.
Desired Qualifications:
Fluency and proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) Previous experience interpreting in school settings preferred VQAS Level III or 3.5 EIPA score anticipated—credentialing requirements will be finalized soon Ability to adapt communication styles appropriately for students of different age groups Comfortable working with variable assignments and caseloads Passion for fostering accessible, inclusive learning environments
Primary Responsibilities:
Provide accurate, effective interpretation services for students in classrooms and throughout the school day Facilitate communication between students, teachers, staff, and parents/guardians Adjust approach and vocabulary to suit the developmental and educational needs of each student Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional ethical standards Participate in intake, planning, and team meetings as needed
