Job Description
Make a difference supporting students with unique communication needs in a welcoming school community near Norfolk, VA! A contract opportunity is available for two experienced Sign Language Interpreters, beginning August 2026 and continuing through mid-June 2027. This full-time position (35 hours per week, MondayFriday) primarily involves 1:1 interpreting for elementary-aged students, offering the chance to build meaningful connections and contribute directly to students academic and social success. While your primary student assignment will be established, flexibility is valuedinterpreters may be called upon to assist at additional locations if their assigned student is absent, ensuring learning continuity. Extensive experience with Visaphonics is appreciated but not required.
Qualifications/Desired Experience:
Possession of a VA Quality Assurance Screening (VQAS) Level III (required) Strong preference for Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) score of 3.5+; district may consider scores above 3.0 for interviews or a QAS Score of 3 or better Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and interpreting within educational environments Prior experience working with elementary students is highly desirable Adaptable and reliable, able to cover multiple school locations as needed Commitment to confidentiality and professional standards
