The Department of Theatre at Guilford Technical Community College seeks an energetic, enthusiastic, and collaborative part-time Theatre Lab Assistant to join our team. This Theatre Lab Assistant will work up to 20 hours per week and assist faculty in our Associate in Fine Arts in Theatre program to coordinate the technical and production aspects of performances and general theater operations. This position supports all phases of production, including scenic construction, lighting, sound, costumes, properties, and backstage operations in an educational setting. The successful candidate will possess practical experience in theatrical production and demonstrate a commitment to fostering a collaborative, safe, and supportive learning environment.
Duties/Functions:
Assist Theater faculty in planning, coordinating, and executing all technical aspects of theatrical productions. Assist with scenic construction, painting, installation, strike, and maintenance of scenery and properties. Assist with lighting and sound system installation, programming, operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance. Assist with costume construction, organization, maintenance, and storage as needed. Oversee the organization, maintenance, cleanliness, and safety of the theatre, scene shop, backstage areas, storage spaces, and technical equipment. Assist in coordinating production schedules, work calls, technical rehearsals, and performances. Ensure productions are completed safely, efficiently, on schedule, and within established budgets. Delegate tasks appropriately and work effectively with or without direct supervision. Perform other production-related duties as assigned. This position requires flexible scheduling, including evenings and weekends during rehearsals and performances
Education Required:
Associate's degree in Theatre, Technical Theatre, Stagecraft, or a closely related field, or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience.
