Primary Duties and Responsibilities are listed below: Job Summary Provide necessary technical assistance for scheduled events and activities occurring at the O'Donnell Performing Arts Center on the Brenham Campus Principal Accountabilities 1.
Production & Event Support:
Provide technical assistance, setup, and execution for scheduled events (Performing Arts Series, Theatre Arts Series, college productions, and outside entities). Coordinate operations with the Technical Theatre Arts Director or designated supervisor. 2.
Specialized Area Supervision:
Supervise and execute the daily operations, build schedules, and project management for a designated theatrical shop or production discipline (e.g., Costumes/Wardrobe, Scenery/Carpentry, or Electrics/Audio) based on institutional need and candidate specialization. 3.
Facility & Equipment Maintenance:
Monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot technical equipment and safety protocols within designated facility spaces, collaborating with the Technical Theatre Arts Director or designated supervisor. 4.
Student & Crew Mentorship:
Assist in training and ensuring the safety of student workers, laboratory students, and run crews during builds and production runs. 5. Perform other related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications/ Required Degree, License or Certifications 1. Associate's Degree with at least 12 hours of Theatre Arts (DRAM) course work OR at least one year of related technical theatre experience in lieu of educational credits. Minimum Competencies 1.
Theatrical Specialization:
Demonstrated intermediate-to-advanced proficiency in at least one of the following core areas, with a willingness to learn, adapt, and provide basic cross-functional support in others:
Costume & Wardrobe Management:
Garment construction, patterning, alterations, shop organization, and wardrobe/run-crew supervision.
Scenic Construction & Stagecraft:
Structural carpentry, scenic painting, tool maintenance, rigging, and safe operation of standard wood/metalworking power tools.
Lighting & Sound Technology:
Hang, focus, and maintenance of lighting fixtures; basic lightboard programming; live audio setup, and console operation.
Venue & Event Operations:
Stage management, front-of-house coordination, artist backstage transitions, and event-day building supervision. 2.
Problem Solving:
Ability to troubleshoot immediate technical, logistical, or equipment issues relative to the execution of live events within designated area of expertise. 3.
Collaboration & Safety:
Ability to work cooperatively and maintain a strictly safe, positive working environment for faculty, staff, students, and community user groups. 4.
Schedule Flexibility:
Ability to work a flexible schedule tailored around the production calendar, heavily inclusive of evening and weekend production hours. 5.
Basic Administration:
Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and familiarity with standard office software (word processing, spreadsheets, and email). Preferred Qualifications 1.BA, BS, or BFA with a concentration in technical theatre, arts management, design, or a closely related field. 2.Experience working within a campus performing arts facility, educational theatre environment, or commercial entertainment venue. Preferred Competencies 1.OSHA 10-Hour General Industry or Construction certification (or willingness to obtain). 2.First Aid/CPR/AED certification. 3.Valid Texas Driver's License.
