Northern Virginia Performing Arts (NOVAPA) is seeking responsible and technically skilled Assistant Technical Directors to support theatrical productions, classes, rehearsals, camps, and special events at our Leesburg, Virginia location. The Assistant Technical Director will work under the direction of NOVAPA's Technical Director and assist with lighting, sound, microphones, projections, scenery, backstage operations, equipment maintenance, and production safety.
Responsibilities:
Assist with the setup, operation, troubleshooting, and breakdown of theatrical equipment. Support lighting, sound, wireless microphone, projection, and communication systems. Assist with scenery, props, stage equipment, and backstage preparation. Help prepare the performance space for rehearsals and productions. Attend assigned rehearsals, technical rehearsals, performances, and production meetings. Supervise or guide student technicians and production assistants when assigned. Maintain clean, organized, and safe technical and storage areas. Inspect equipment and promptly report damage, hazards, or maintenance needs. Follow production schedules, cue sheets, equipment assignments, and safety procedures. Maintain professional conduct when working around children and teenagers. Complete assigned production reports and return equipment to its proper location.
Qualifications:
Experience in technical theatre, live entertainment, audiovisual production, or a related field. Working knowledge of at least two of the following: theatrical lighting, live sound, wireless microphones, projections, scenery, rigging, or stage operations. Ability to troubleshoot calmly during live performances. Dependability, punctuality, and strong attention to detail. Ability to work evenings and weekends, including technical and production weeks. Ability to safely lift, carry, and move production equipment. Ability to work from ladders or elevated positions when properly trained and authorized. OSHA training or recognized theatrical-safety training is preferred. Experience working with young performers is preferred. All selected candidates must complete NOVAPA's background-screening process, child-safety training, safety orientation, and required onboarding before beginning work.

Compensation:
A stipend of at no less than $1,000 but based on education, position, leadership responsibility, and any certifications you have obtained.
