The Full-time Director of Sport & Recreation is a dynamic role requiring a professional with a proven track record in sports management, facility management, communication, and supervision. The ideal candidate will excel at fostering a high-performing team comprising part-time staff, volunteers, contract officials, and organizational partners, all dedicated to advancing youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. This role entails overseeing the implementation of policies, procedures, best practices, and standards to ensure the delivery of high-quality, safe programs, and outstanding customer service aligned with YMCA's quality standards. The position demands a flexible schedule that includes seasonal day, evening, and weekend shifts to meet program needs.
OUTCOMES
Attendance and Schedule:
This position requires on-site presence and a flexible schedule to accommodate seasonal day, evening, and weekend programs.
Budget and Resources:
Manage program budgets and fee collection to ensure fiscal goals are met.
Collaboration:
Work as part of the Program Operations Team to set goals, develop strategies, and innovate programs.
Compliance:
Ensure all staff and volunteers complete the necessary screening processes.
Community Engagement:
Foster relationships with local community groups, participate in community events to raise program awareness, and support YMCA fundraising efforts.
Data Management:
Gather and analyze program statistics to evaluate effectiveness and adjust programs based on community needs.
Facility Coordination:
Oversee the scheduling and use of facilities for various activities and events.
Facility Management:
Uphold safety standards and maintain cleanliness; manage seasonal operations at the YMCA Field of Dreams, including facility/equipment maintenance schedules and machinery operation.
Financial Administration:
Process invoices, check requests credit card reconciliation, and expense reports promptly.
Inventory Management:
Maintain accurate records of equipment, conduct inspections, and manage supplies within budget constraints.
Program Oversight:
Lead and enhance youth and adult sports programs, aligning with the YMCA's strategic and operational objectives, and manage program staffing, schedules, and registrations.
Safety Enforcement:
Ensure the safety of children and adults, and assist in maintaining facility cleanliness and safety.
Staff Management:
Recruit, mentor, and manage staff and volunteers, including scheduling and performance evaluations. Develop strategies to motivate staff and achieve organizational goals.
Teaching:
Conduct youth and adult sports classes as necessary.
General Duties:
Perform additional tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in a related field or 3 years of experience preferred. Experience in supervision, budgeting & program design/management preferred. Must possess experience working with volunteers. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are required. Ability to communicate and relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community. Ability to exercise discriminating and independent judgment. Proficient computer skills with experience and knowledge of Microsoft Office, program software, and social media preferred. Completion of all required training within 90 days of hire. The incumbent must pass a criminal background check and drug screen.

Adequate strength, agility, and mobility are essential to perform job duties and supervise activities, with the ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Must be capable of hearing sounds and distress signals within their area of responsibility.
Noise Levels:
The typical noise level in the work environment is moderate.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
Salary:
$55,000-$65,000 annually, commensurate with qualifications and experience. PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS
Employment is contingent upon successfully completing a criminal background check, drug screening, and any other pre-employment requirements established by the Wabash County YMCA.
Pay:
$55,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
