Summary:
Gateway Arts is seeking a photography intern to assist with an ongoing archival project. Founded in 1973, Vinfen's Gateway Arts is an internationally acclaimed studio art center, store, and gallery providing professional supports and representation to adult artists with disabilities. Our physical artwork storage currently houses decades worth of work by well over 100 artists. We recently invested in a new inventory management system which we are using to create aplete digital archive of all artwork in our possession. We are looking for a detail-oriented individual with basic photography and photo-editing skills and an interest in art and/or archiving to assist in the execution of this project. This position would be particularly relevant to someone interested in museum/gallery registration and/or non-profit art spaces. Gateway Arts is an active studio environment, so in addition to fulfilling the duties listed below, interested candidates should be prepared to interact in a professional manner with our cohort of artists with disabilities and toplete necessary human services trainings, provided by our parentanization, Vinfen.
Duties:
Assist with photographing original 2D and 3D artwork using a DSLR camera
Create scans of smaller 2D artwork using flatbed scanner
Edit artwork photos for accuracy in Adobe Photoshop
Assist with building and maintaining digital image archive
Take artwork measurements and collect additional artwork information
Assist Marketing Manager, Artistic Director, and Store Manager with other day-to-day tasks as assigned
Qualifications:
Qualifications
Must be a currently enrolled student
Some photography experience - experience photographing artwork a plus
Basic familiarity with DSLR cameras
Competency with Adobe Photoshop
Basic knowledge of various art-making materials
Basic understanding of image file types
Comfortable working with individuals with disabilities Educational Objectives/Opportunities
Develop photography skills specific to artwork documentation
Expand photo-editing skills with focus on artwork photography
Learn systems related to file management and inventory tracking
Learn to use inventory management software
Develop skills related to artwork management, packing, and storage
Observe and participate in general gallery operations
Attend human services trainings and learn best practices related to working with individuals with disabilities
Interact with a diverse population of artist participants in an active studio environment
Learn about how Gateway Arts develops its gallery and store programming to best serve the interests of our artists and the requirements of our funding sources
Work with Gateway Arts Marketing Manager, Artistic Director, and Store and Gallery Manager and learn about the role each plays in artwork management, presentation, and promotion
