POSITION OVERVIEW
The Manager of Photography serves as the lead photographer for the New Jersey Devils and Prudential Center, overseeing photography production, visual direction and asset workflows across both brands. Reporting to the Director, Social Media Strategy, this is both a strategic and highly hands-on position. The Manager of Photography is responsible for capturing, editing and delivering compelling imagery, establishing photographic standards and coordinating the resources required to meet priority photography needs across the organization. The ideal candidate combines exceptional technical photography skills with a sophisticated editorial and brand eye. This individual must thrive in fast-paced live environments, make strong decisions under tight deadlines and collaborate effectively across departments.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE BELOW
Photography Production and Creative Direction Serve as the primary photographer for Devils games, practices, media days, team events, community programs, partnership activations and other priority organizational initiatives. Lead and execute photography coverage for select Prudential Center concerts, events and entertainment initiatives. Capture, select, edit and deliver high-quality imagery on deadline for use across social media, digital platforms, editorial content, marketing campaigns, advertising, partnerships and print. Establish and evolve distinct photographic direction and visual standards for the New Jersey Devils and Prudential Center brands. Partner with the Content team and broader Marketing department to translate campaigns and organizational priorities into photography plans, creative briefs and shot lists. Lead studio, portrait, product and lifestyle photography, including shoot preparation, lighting and image production. Collaborate with departments including Hockey Operations, Partnerships, the Devils Youth Foundation and Prudential Center to determine photography priorities and coverage needs. Serve as the primary photography contact for internal stakeholders, freelance photographers, external vendors and media photographers covering sports and entertainment events. Asset and Workflow Management Manage the complete photography workflow, including capture, ingest, selection, editing, metadata, archiving and distribution. Select, edit and transmit imagery quickly during games, events and other live environments. Work closely with the Senior Asset Manager to maintain organized, searchable and accessible photography libraries. Help provide best-in-class asset collection, organization and distribution through PhotoShelter, Iconik and other DAM/MAM platforms. Ensure internal stakeholders receive accurate, high-quality assets within required timelines. Maintain consistent standards for file organization, metadata, image quality and archive integrity. Coverage and Resource Management Develop photography coverage plans based on organizational priorities and available resources. Recruit, schedule, brief and oversee a reliable roster of freelance and event photographers. Provide clear creative direction and quality control for photography produced by external contributors. Oversee photography production budgets and external vendor relationships. Maintain photography equipment and recommend future equipment, technology and workflow needs. Contribute to the overall culture of the Marketing team and help elevate visual standards across the organization.
QUALIFICATIONS
A professional photography portfolio must be submitted with the application. Required Five or more years of professional photography experience. An exceptional portfolio demonstrating sports or action photography, live-event coverage, portrait or studio work and brand storytelling. Demonstrated ability to capture, select, edit and transmit imagery quickly in a live-event environment. Advanced proficiency with professional camera systems, lenses, lighting and studio equipment. Advanced proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud, particularly Photoshop and Lightroom. Experience managing photography assets, metadata and digital archives. Experience directing freelance photographers, external vendors or small visual teams. Strong creative judgment, organization, communication and time-management skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities and respond to changing needs under tight deadlines. Preferred Photography experience with a professional or collegiate sports organization, major entertainment venue or consumer brand. Experience with PhotoShelter, SmugMug, iconik or comparable asset-management platforms. Video capture and editing experience, including familiarity with Premiere Pro and After Effects.
