Job Description
About Wilcoxson's Founded in 1912, Wilcoxson's is Montana's oldest, largest, and most iconic ice cream producer. From our Livingston and Billings facilities, with cold storage and distribution locations across Montana, we craft and deliver premium ice cream and novelties statewide through our Direct Store Delivery network. Our company is going through an exciting transition from a legacy food manufacturer to a modern, forward-looking food manufacturer. We are looking for a high-autonomy leader to help build and operate the systems that will enable us to move to the next level - digitizing operations, expanding distribution, and building a scalable Montana-based CPG company. This is not a maintenance role in a fully built system. The right person will be comfortable walking the plant floor, reconciling imperfect data, asking direct questions, and building practical tools while the business keeps moving. Position Summary The Operations Manager will own the day-to-day execution and continuous improvement of Wilcoxson's production, inventory, and distribution systems. Your mission is to build and run the weekly operating system that allows Wilcoxson's to produce, purchase, inventory, and distribute with fewer surprises, fewer stockouts, and less owner involvement.
This role is equal parts:
Operator (keeping the business running smoothly) Builder (creating systems, processes, and structure) Analyst (using data to improve decisions) Key Responsibilities This role owns the operating rhythms that connect inventory, procurement, production planning, and distribution. Wilcoxson's is a highly seasonal business, so the Operations Manager must keep daily, weekly, and seasonal rhythms in sync. Your functions listed in order of importance: Production Planning Own weekly and seasonal production planning to meet demand Balance capacity, labor, and inventory to minimize stockouts and excess inventory Refine production rhythms and forecasting systems Inventory Management Own visibility and control of finished goods, packaging, ingredients, and critical supplies across locations. Maintain and improve inventory tracking systems for better accuracy, forecasting, and purchasing decisions. Reduce stockouts, overproduction, waste, and last-minute surprises. Procurement Plan, place and track orders to arrive in time for production. Manage vendor relationships, including pricing, lead times, and exceptions Source new vendors to improve cost, quality, and reliability Data & Analysis Analyze operational data and provide actionable recommendations Build reports, dashboards, and planning tools that improve visibility across the business. Support pricing, product, and expansion decisions Systems and Process Improvements Current operations are time (and paper) intensive. Streamline current operations such as order tracking and invoicing. Replace manual and tribal processes with repeatable systems Support operational practices that maintain product quality, food safety, traceability, and regulatory compliance Distribution Coordinate product flow across production facilities, cold storage locations, and Wilcoxson's statewide DSD fleet. Improve route efficiency, load planning, and service levels Support expansion of distribution footprint Minimum Qualifications Strong Excel/Sheets ability, including comfort building planning tools, reconciling messy data, using lookups/pivots, and turning operational data into weekly decisions. 3+ years experience in operations, manufacturing, supply chain, or logistics Experience with inventory systems or ERP tools (preferred) Highly organized with strong problem-solving ability Demonstrated ability to improve or build operational systems, processes, or reporting tools. Comfortable working in a fast-paced, hands-on production environment Strong communication, self-reliance, and an ownership mindset
