Production Manager BlendSource (Pottstown)
Job Description
Summary/Objective The Production Manager leads day-to-day manufacturing operations for BlendSource at its Pottstown, Pennsylvania location. This position oversees production planning, scheduling, staffing, workflow, safety, quality, costs, and performance to ensure customer and production requirements are met safely, efficiently, on time, and within budget. The Production Manager develops the production team, coordinates cross-functional activities, and drives continuous improvement. As assigned, this position also supports communication and issue resolution with designated third-party co-manufacturers. Essential Functions The Production Manager oversees the Pottstown production process from planning and scheduling through completion. This position leads production employees; ensures they are trained, supported, and equipped; and adjusts schedules to optimize labor, materials, and equipment while reducing downtime. The Production Manager works with Purchasing, Quality, Sales, Supply Chain, Warehouse, and Logistics to resolve issues and maintain efficient operations. This position also monitors performance, controls costs, improves processes and product quality, and supports assigned contract-manufacturing relationships. Lead, train, coach, and develop production employees to support performance, engagement, and growth. Assign and coordinate work, monitor progress, and adjust priorities to meet production targets and deadlines. Develop and maintain production schedules aligned with customer needs, material availability, labor capacity, and equipment capabilities. Use independent judgment to assess production concerns, implement solutions, and adjust processes. Make appropriate decisions regarding schedules, staffing, resource allocation, and process improvements. Monitor daily production and respond to changing priorities, delays, staffing concerns, or equipment limitations. Ensure production targets are achieved safely, on time, within budget, and according to food-safety and quality standards. Review production reports and key performance indicators and use data to improve safety, quality, cost, efficiency, and output. Prepare production updates for senior management, including trends, risks, results, and improvement opportunities. Monitor production costs and identify savings without compromising safety, quality, or customer requirements. Lead continuous-improvement efforts, including waste reduction, lean-manufacturing practices, and process optimization. Collaborate with Purchasing, Quality, Supply Chain, Warehouse, Logistics, Sales, and other departments to resolve production issues. Monitor raw-material and finished-product inventory to support production schedules and customer-release expectations. Partner with Procurement to forecast and manage raw-material requirements. Maintain awareness of issues at designated contract-manufacturing locations that could affect production or customer commitments. Coordinate with assigned third-party co-manufacturers and resolve or escalate operational or contractual concerns. Conduct performance evaluations, provide feedback, address performance concerns, and recognize employee contributions. Ensure employees follow company policies, standard operating procedures, Good Manufacturing Practices, food-safety requirements, quality standards, and workplace-safety procedures. Promote and enforce safe work practices throughout the BlendSource Pottstown operation. Continuously improve departmental systems, processes, and workflows. Work Experience Requirements Five to seven years of experience in production management, operations, supply chain, manufacturing, or a related field. At least two to three years of leadership or supervisory experience in a production or manufacturing environment. Experience developing production schedules, balancing workloads, and meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Demonstrated ability to lead and develop employees while maintaining performance and production expectations. Experience using production data and performance metrics to implement improvements. Food-manufacturing experience is strongly preferred. Experience working with third-party or contract manufacturers is preferred. Working knowledge of applicable safety, environmental, food-safety, and regulatory requirements. Education/Knowledge Requirements Bachelor's degree in Production Management, Operations Management, Food Science, Business Administration, Supply Chain, or a related field; equivalent relevant experience may be considered. Strong organizational, analytical, decision-making, problem-solving, and communication skills. Knowledge of production planning, scheduling, resource allocation, inventory management, and process improvement. Ability to prioritize competing demands and respond effectively to changing production needs. Proficiency with production-management or enterprise resource planning systems and Microsoft Office. Advanced Microsoft Excel skills are preferred. Ability to build productive relationships with employees, leaders, cross-functional teams, vendors, and manufacturing partners. Physical Requirements Ability to work in both office and production-floor environments. Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods as required. Frequent use of hands and fingers for typing, handling materials, and operating equipment. Ability to communicate clearly and visually inspect products, materials, equipment, and production activities. Ability to bend, reach, stoop, and move throughout the production environment. Ability to lift and move up to 30 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation. Work Environment/Hours This position is onsite at the BlendSource operation in Pottstown, Pennsylvania. The typical schedule is Monday through Friday, 5:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with additional hours or occasional overtime as operationally required. The position works in office and food-manufacturing environments and may involve production equipment, elevated noise, temperature fluctuations, food ingredients, and airborne particles.
