We are a small, community-focused newspaper serving Western Elk County, with a mission to keep our readers informed and connected. From Friday night football to local outdoor recreation, we shine a spotlight on the people, teams, and traditions that make Ridgway, Johnsonburg, and the surrounding communities proud. We are seeking a passionate and reliable Sports & Recreation Reporter to cover high school athletics, community sporting events, and local outdoor recreation. This position involves attending games and events, writing clear and engaging articles, capturing the excitement of competition, and highlighting the community's strong sports culture.

Responsibilities:

Report on high school sports in Ridgway and Johnsonburg (football, basketball, baseball/softball, track, etc.) Cover local recreational events, outdoor activities, and community traditions Write timely and accurate game stories, features, and previews Take basic photos at events (camera or smartphone acceptable) Build relationships with coaches, players, and community members Meet weekly deadlines for print and digital publication

Qualifications:

Strong writing and communication skills Interest in sports, recreation, and community journalism Ability to attend evening and weekend events Photography skills a plus, but not required Journalism experience preferred, but willing to train the right candidate
