DESCRIPTION/ POSITION SUMMARY
The set builder role involves constructing, assembling, and designing scenic elements for the spring musical, working in close collaboration with the directors, production team and student crew. Interpret design sketches and scale models to build set pieces that align with the artistic vision of the show. Construct flats, platforms, props, and other scenic elements using wood, paint, hardware, and other materials. Supervise and mentor students in basic stagecraft and construction techniques. Ensure all set pieces are safe, stable, and meet school safety standards. Collaborate with the technical director on budgeting materials and managing build timelines. Attend production meetings, rehearsals (as needed), and all technical and dress rehearsals. Assist with strike (tear-down) after the final performance.
SKILLS:
Ability to manage and inspire high school students with varying levels of experience. Organizational skills and initiative for working with minimal direct supervision. Proven ability to manage a production calendar and meet hard deadlines. Must show evidence of strong leadership and organizational skills.
KNOWLEDGE
Previous experience in scenic construction, carpentry, or theater tech preferred, Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and scenic designs. Proficiency with basic power tools, hand tools, and construction techniques and strong organizational and problem-solving skills Ability to lift 50lbs and work on ladders or elevated platforms safely. Patience and enthusiasm for working with students in an educational settings. Commitment to the production calendar, including occasional evenings and weekends.
ABILITY:
Establish and maintain positive and supportive working relationships with all stakeholders to be flexible and change as needed. A "team player" attitude to work closely with the entire production team. Preferred Experience Previous experience in educational theater or community theater production
Stipend Range:
