Sound Assistant Qualifications 2 Years of College or a Technical or Vocational School One year of experience Experience or interest in theatrical or live sound. Operate or learn a digital sound console. Mix a live theatrical production independently after training. Basic understanding of wireless microphones, audio equipment, and signal flow preferred. Listening, organizational, communication, and troubleshooting skills. Dependable, punctual, and able to remain calm during live performances. Available to work evenings and weekends according to the production schedule. Position Summary The Sound Assistant supports the Technical Director/Sound Designer with the setup, operation, maintenance, and organization of sound equipment for Playhouse productions, rentals, and special events. This position must also be able to mix and independently run a production once it has been programmed and established by the Sound Designer. Maintain the established sound design, provide a consistent mix from performance to performance, care for Playhouse equipment, and work collaboratively with performers, musicians, stage management, and the technical team. Responsibilities Prepare, distribute, collect, clean, and properly store wireless microphones and bodypacks. Assist performers with proper microphone placement and troubleshoot microphone issues. Perform pre-show microphone, battery, equipment, and system checks. Assist with setup and strike of microphones, speakers, monitors, consoles, cables, communication systems, and other audio equipment. Assist the Sound Designer during technical and dress rehearsals. Learn the programmed sound design and mixing requirements for assigned productions. Mix and operate live theatrical performances independently once trained and approved by the Sound Designer. Manage microphone levels, orchestra inputs, playback, and other audio sources during performances. Follow established cues, programming, levels, effects, and design choices. Troubleshoot sound issues quickly and appropriately during live performances. Maintain organized sound equipment, work areas, cables, microphones, and accessories. Assist with sound operation for rentals, concerts, and special events. Assist the Technical Director with other technical responsibilities as needed.

Compensation:

15.00-20.00 hourly DOE
