About the job The Technical Writer will create and maintain field-ready Operations Manuals that help technicians confidently install, configure, operate, and troubleshoot complex satellite communications hardware and systems. We're looking for someone who
- Has 2-4+ years of experience writing system-level Operations Manuals for telecommunications, satellite communications, aerospace, or defense electronics
- Has deep proficiency in Adobe FrameMaker, including managing large, multi-chapter books, condition tags, custom variables, and structured or unstructured cross-references
- Has experience documenting high-power electrical, thermal, and RF radiation safety hazards and warnings (ANSI/IEEE compliant)
- Has experience documenting complex electronic hardware and technical systems
- Can provide published writing samples, such as Operations Manuals, User Guides, or Field Maintenance Manuals for complex electronic hardware
- Has experience with satellite communications, RF systems, or related technologies (preferred)
- Has experience documenting software and firmware interactions, including GUI navigation, CLI commands, SNMP, or Modbus configurations (preferred)
- Can interpret engineering schematics, wiring diagrams, RF signal paths, and mechanical blueprints (preferred) What you'll do
- Author end-to-end Operations Manuals for multi-band BUC products and redundant systems
- Develop clear, step-by-step instructions for installation, initial calibration, configuration, and daily operation
- Document 1:1 and 1:2 redundant switch configurations and failover procedures
- Explain how field operators monitor, configure, and override automated failovers
- Create Command & Control Guides covering GUI navigation, CLI commands, and remote monitoring setups
- Document software and firmware interactions with system hardware
- Translate complex wiring diagrams, RF signal paths, and mechanical blueprints into clear, user-friendly block diagrams
- Restructure and maintain existing Operations Manuals and related technical documentation
- Incorporate safety hazards, warnings, and operating procedures into user-facing documentation
- Produce accurate, field-ready documentation for complex satellite communications systems Physical requirements
- Must be able to work at a technical workstation for extended periods
- Must be able to review detailed technical drawings, schematics, and documentation on a computer
- Must be able to communicate and collaborate with engineering and technical teams
- May occasionally need to access or work around electronic hardware and laboratory or manufacturing environments #

$35.00 - $38.00 per hour Expected hours: 40.0 per week
