Job Description
El Porto Surf Shop is looking for a producer/editor ("preditor") to help turn the daily life surrounding a busy Los Angeles surf shop into an ongoing YouTube series and social media content. This is not just an editing job. We need someone who can look through hours of footage, recognize what is interesting, funny, dramatic, human or worth following, and find the story without being told exactly where it is.
THE PROJECT
We are building a multi-camera recording system around El Porto Surf Shop to continuously capture the characters, conversations, surf culture, employees, customers, musicians, events and everyday unpredictability surrounding the shop. The raw material will already exist. Your job is to find the show inside it. Think documentary/reality storytelling rather than corporate content. The same footage should also feed our Instagram, YouTube Shorts and other social channels.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Review and organize footage from multiple cameras
- Identify compelling characters, conversations and storylines
- Recognize stories that may develop across multiple days
- Edit longer-form YouTube episodes
- Pull strong standalone moments for Reels/Shorts
- Create hooks and cold opens
- Handle basic audio cleanup, music, titles and graphics
- Maintain an organized archive so interesting footage doesn't disappear
- Develop a recognizable editing style for the series
- Work increasingly independently as you learn the people and world surrounding the shop
WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR
You have strong editorial instincts. You understand that the best moment in eight hours of footage might be a 45-second conversation that nobody told you to look for. Experience with any of the following is especially valuable:
- Documentary editing
- Reality/unscripted television
- YouTube storytelling
- Podcasts with video
- Character-driven content
- Surf/skate/music culture
- Short-form social editing You do not need to live in Los Angeles if we can establish an efficient remote footage workflow.
