Help young adults build the life that comes after school. At ECDC, our East Hampton day and school programs work side by side to support young adults with intellectual disabilities as they move into adulthood. The goal isn't to fill the day. The goal is a job, a network, and a place in the community. That means you'll spend your time helping someone practice for an interview, learn the bus route to their worksite, build the skills to hold down a job, and become a familiar, welcome face around town. You'll see real progress, and you'll be part of the reason it happens. If you've worked as a paraeducator, teaching assistant, job coach, or with young adults in any capacity, you already know how to do much of this. We'd especially like to hear from you. What you'll actually do Career preparedness Teach and reinforce job readiness skills: punctuality, communication, following directions, workplace behavior, and problem-solving Support individuals at job sites, internships, and volunteer placements Practice real-world skills like resume building, interview prep, budgeting, and time management Work on each person's goals and objectives, and track progress Community integration Plan and participate in community outings, activities, and events Teach travel training, safety awareness, and how to use community resources Help build genuine connections so individuals become known, included members of their community Bring ideas. Initiative is expected. Personal support Support personal care, hygiene, and daily living tasks with patience and respect Administer and chart medications accurately (DDS certification required; see below) Follow meal plans and dietary/consistency recommendations Monitor well-being and report any change in health or behavior Document and communicate Complete progress notes, data collection, and IP/BSP documentation in Therap before end of shift Communicate clearly with teammates, supervisors, families, and school or employer partners as appropriate Complete incident reports before end of shift and report emergencies through the proper channels Handle receipts and individual funds accurately Drive Transport individuals safely to worksites, activities, and community locations in agency vehicles Complete vehicle checks and mileage logs What we're looking for A genuine interest in helping young adults gain independence and build their futures Patience, consistency, and the ability to teach a skill many times without losing enthusiasm Reliability. Showing up on time, every scheduled shift, is the foundation everything else sits on. Good judgment when the plan falls apart Works well independently and as part of a team Comfort with computers and documentation systems Preferred experience (strongly considered): Paraeducator, paraprofessional, teaching assistant, or classroom aide Job coach, transition services, or vocational support experience Direct experience supporting young adults, including those with intellectual or developmental disabilities Special education, youth services, or similar settings Requirements High school diploma or equivalent Valid Connecticut or Rhode Island driver's license (out-of-state licenses must be transferred to CT within 90 days per state law) Ability to pass federal and state criminal background checks, a driving record check, and the DDS Abuse & Neglect Registry check, rechecked annually DDS Medication Administration Certification within the first 6 months of hire. We'll send you to the class and pay for it, but passing the state certification within 6 months is required to remain employed. All required training completed within the first 180 days, plus annual/biennial recertification Previous experience with Therap preferred, not required CPR/First Aid and PMT certification preferred; we'll train you if you don't have them Physical requirements Bend, stoop, push, pull, reach, and stand or sit for up to an hour at a time Perform physical management techniques (floor control, kneeling, bending, twisting, stretching) as trained through PMT Remain awake and alert for your full scheduled shift Lift up to 30 lbs Move quickly when a situation calls for it Walk and remain active in community settings in varying weather Work one-on-one with an individual without another staff member present What we offer $19.76 per hour Full time employees have the option to elect health/dental/vision benefits Daytime hours Paid trainings and certification A team that takes their work seriously and has a good time doing it
