Classroom Instructor to join our Adult Education team. In this unique role, you'll provide English language instruction while helping students prepare for success in Commercial Driver's License (CDL) training through classroom-based instruction. By integrating English language development with workforce readiness and CDL theory, you'll equip students with the communication skills, academic knowledge, and confidence needed to pursue rewarding careers in the transportation industry. ESOL & CDL
Classroom Instructor, you'll create an engaging and supportive learning environment that prepares students for success both in everyday life and in the workforce.
Your responsibilities include:
Teach ESOL classes to adult English language learners. Provide classroom-based CDL instruction , helping students understand CDL permit exam content, transportation terminology, safety concepts, regulations, and industry expectations. Integrate English language development with workforce and CDL-related instruction to strengthen students' communication skills and improve their readiness for training and employment. Plan engaging, learner-centered lessons aligned with the Massachusetts English Language Proficiency Standards (MA ELPS). Deliver instruction in person, online, or in a hybrid environment, as program needs require. Assess student progress through formal and informal assessments and tailor instruction to meet individual learning needs. Incorporate digital literacy, workplace readiness, and real-world learning into classroom instruction. Connect students with Education and Career Advisors and other community resources to support their educational and career goals. Maintain accurate attendance, lesson plans, student records, and reports in accordance with DESE requirements. Collaborate with colleagues on curriculum development, program improvement, and community partnerships. Participate in staff meetings, committees, and professional development opportunities. Perform other duties as assigned. What We're Looking ForRequired Qualifications Bachelor's degree required. Previous teaching, training, coaching, or instructional experience preferred. Experience working with adult learners, multilingual populations, or diverse communities is highly desirable. Strong communication, organizational, interpersonal, and computer skills. A learner-centered, culturally responsive approach to teaching. Valid Massachusetts driver's license and reliable transportation for occasional local travel. TESOL certification is preferred but not required. Candidates who do not currently hold a TESOL certification must be willing to obtain one within an agreed-upon timeframe. Valley Opportunity Council is committed to your professional growth and will reimburse the cost of earning your TESOL certification. Interest in workforce development and the ability to teach classroom-based CDL concepts. Prior CDL classroom instruction is a plus. Preferred Qualifications TESOL certification. Bilingual or multilingual skills. Experience teaching adult education, ESOL, workforce development, or contextualized learning. Familiarity with CDL permit preparation, transportation careers, or workforce training programs. Experience using educational technology or online learning platforms.
