Job Description

BJJ Coach —
Martial Arts Academy Position Type:
Full-Time, Salary |
Schedule:
Monday-Friday, 2:00 PM - 8:00 PM (additional hours may be available)
ABOUT US
We're a family-owned martial arts academy with a reputation for doing things differently. Our instructors bring real-world experience to the mat — but our culture is built on warmth, inclusion, and genuine care for every student who walks through our doors. We're growing fast, and we're looking for a coach who wants to grow with us. This isn't just a gym. It's a second family for our students and their parents. Kids as young as three train here. Adults discover what they're capable of. Parents and kids tap each other out. And everyone — regardless of age, experience, or fitness level — is treated with respect and supported at their own pace.
THE ROLE
As our BJJ Coach, you'll lead structured, engaging classes across all age groups and skill levels — from our youngest students (ages 3-5) through adult advanced practitioners. You'll be a daily presence in the lives of our students, building the kind of relationship that keeps people coming back year after year. This is a salary position with real earning upside tied to program growth. When the program grows, your compensation grows with it.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Design and deliver BJJ classes for five distinct groups: Tiny Grapplers (ages 3-5) — fundamentals through movement, games, and confidence-building Junior Grapplers (ages 6-7) — technique introduction and mat awareness Youth (ages 8+) — IBJJF-based skill progression Adult Fundamentals — welcoming, no-judgment instruction for beginners Adult Advanced — technical depth, live rolling, and competitive preparation Create a consistent, structured curriculum aligned with the IBJJF belt progression system Track and celebrate student progress through belt promotions and milestone moments Foster a positive, supportive mat culture that reflects our family-first values Communicate proactively with parents about their child's development Assist with in-house and outside competitions, special events, and seasonal camps as needed Model professionalism, discipline, and heart — both on and off the mat Attend coaching training, tournaments, and additional academy events as needed
REQUIREMENTS
Minimum brown belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (IBJJF or recognized lineage) Demonstrated experience coaching children (ages 3+) and adults Genuine enthusiasm for teaching all levels — from first-day white belts to seasoned competitors Strong communication skills with both kids and parents Reliable, punctual, and committed to daily 3-7 PM schedule Must pass a thorough background check CPR/First Aid certification preferred (or willingness to obtain)
COMPENSATION
Base Salary:
$40,000/year
Performance Bonuses:
Tied directly to membership growth — as you help build the program, your earnings increase
Salary Reviews:
Regular reviews with advancement opportunities as the academy expands We believe coaches who invest in student retention and program quality deserve to share in the results. This structure is designed to reward exactly that.
WHY THIS GYM
An experienced instructor team that leads with integrity and care A student community that shows up for each other — and for you A growing academy with real momentum and expanding programs Leadership that values coaches and invests in their success A culture where discipline meets heart, and everyone belongs on the mat
