Under the direct supervision of the FitCity Program Coordinator, the 60+ Pickleball Instructor is responsible for planning, teaching and supervising the pickleball program for adults 60 years and older at the FitCity Center. The instructor will provide instruction that promotes physical activity, skill development, confidence, and social engagement while ensuring a safe, supportive and enjoyable environment for participants of varying abilities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Plans and instructs pickleball classes, clinics, and skill building sessions for adults ages 60 and older. Teaches proper pickleball fundamentals including serving, scoring, positioning, footwork, shot selection, game strategy and sportsmanship. Modifies instruction and activities to accommodate varying physical abilities, experience levels, and mobility limitations. Demonstrates proper warm-up stretching and cool-down techniques to help prevent injury. Monitors participants safety and encourages proper use of equipment and adherence to facility rules. Creates an welcoming, inclusive and positive environment that encourages physical activity, confidence and social connection. Maintains inventory of equipment and reports any damaged or missing equipment to supervisor/coordinator. Interacts courteously and respectfully with participants, staff, volunteers and patrons. Assists with pickleball tournaments, demonstrations, special events and community programs as assigned. Must be able to meet attendance and punctuality requirements for this position. POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
Graduation from high school or equivalent, previous experience playing and or teaching pickleball. Prefer experience teaching older adults or recreational sports programs preferred. Patient, encouraging and enthusiastic with a passion for helping older adults remain active and engaged.
License and Certifications:
Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities. Valid Utah Driver's License. Willingness to obtain CPR and First Aid certification within 3 months of hire. Ability to use computer programs such as word processing to organize tournament brackets. Ability to handle stressful situations in a calm and productive manner. Ability to handle difficult situations. Good public relations skills.
Working ConditionsPhysical Demands:
Ability to walk, stand, demonstrate drills and remain active for extended periods. Must be able to bend, stoop, reach, lift, and carry equipment weighing up to 20 pounds.
