ABOUT THE ACADEMY

We are a pre-college, conservatory-style music academy located in Alpharetta, just north of Atlanta. Students here train on a pre-professional model: private weekly instruction, structured theory and musicianship coursework, recurring studio classes and recitals, chamber and orchestral repertoire, and masterclasses led by visiting artists.

TRACK RECORD WPMA

students regularly earn concertmaster, principal, and section-leader chairs in NYO, NYO2, the Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra, the Emory Youth Symphony Orchestra, and GMEA All-State. They take prizes at regional, national, and international competitions and attend top summer festivals. Alumni have continued to conservatories including Juilliard, Peabody, the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University, New England Conservatory, and the San Francisco Conservatory, and to universities including Harvard, Yale, Princeton, UPenn, MIT, Stanford, UChicago, Brown, Cornell, Columbia, Dartmouth, and Duke. Our strings program drove much of that record. We are now investing the same resources and standards into winds and brass, which means a teacher joining now helps define a growing department inside an academy that already knows how to develop young musicians at the highest level. Our students are ambitious, coachable, and supported at home.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Teach weekly private lessons on your instrument Run a studio class for your students each semester Recruit, mentor, and grow your own studio Prepare students for youth-orchestra auditions, competitions, festivals, and conservatory auditions, including repertoire selection, practice strategy, and stage presence Participate in academy masterclasses, recitals, and events throughout the year

HOW WE SUPPORT CAREER TEACHERS

Studio building. You are not starting from zero. We introduce you to committed students from supportive families; retain and develop them, and referrals follow. Faculty development. Teaching here happens in view of colleagues, as in a conservatory, through masterclasses, recitals, and studio classes alongside senior faculty. Experienced faculty will coach your teaching, and as their studios fill, students are referred to you. Advancement tied to results. As your studio grows and your students succeed, your hourly rate increases and your standing on the faculty grows. Senior faculty privileges include auditioning and selecting your own incoming students, chamber coaching, invitations to annual faculty performances, a dedicated teaching room, and involvement in our visiting-artist masterclasses, Pre-College division, and Summer Festival. Transparent criteria. Advancement standards are published, so you always know what the next step requires. Administrative support. We handle scheduling, billing, and family communication. Theory, aural skills, and musicianship instruction is available to all students. Staff collaborative pianists support your students' performances. Frequent performance opportunities, flexible scheduling, and relocation assistance for the right candidate. Compensation starts at $55 per hour with a published path to significantly higher rates as your studio and your students develop.

QUALIFICATIONS

Accomplished wind or brass player with a strong performance résumé; clarinet, trumpet, and flute prioritized Substantial experience teaching pre-college or pre-professional students Training from a leading conservatory or music program; international training and performing experience especially welcome A clear, motivating approach to building technique and repertoire across ages and levels Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis; strong candidates are encouraged to apply early.
