Randolph-Macon College invites applications for a full-time tenure-track position of Assistant Professor and Director of Choral Activities in the Department of Arts to begin September 1, 2027.

The Music Program in the Department of Arts at Randolph-Macon College offers all students the hands-on opportunity to explore the creative process of music, to form an understanding of the relationship between art and society, and to develop personal musicality through participation in ensembles, applied study, coursework in music history and music theory, technological applications, music industry coursework, research, internships, and pedagogy coursework.

Major/Essential Functions :

Randolph-Macon College faculty teach, advise, conduct research and engage in scholarship, and serve the college and department. Primary teaching responsibilities will include recruiting for and leading two choral ensembles (Concert Choir and Chamber Singers), teaching choral conducting, as well as teaching and developing courses to support the Department's music major/minor, its music education program, and contributions to general education.

Minimum Qualifications :

DMA in Choral Conducting or PhD/DME in Choral Music Education (or a related field) to be completed at time of appointment, September 1, 2027; Prior experience leading choral ensembles at the collegiate or secondary levels; Evidence of engagement with varied choral repertoire; Demonstrated effectiveness in teaching; Evidence of a commitment to undergraduate teaching and student engagement; Prior experience teaching choral musicians of varying levels of expertise; and Experience working with students and a demonstrated commitment to pedagogical methods that support all learners in reaching their maximum potential.

Preferred Qualifications :

Evidence of effective strategies for recruiting a broad spectrum of choral singers Experience and training in vocal pedagogy Experience and training in music education Experience teaching conducting Evidence of professional activity in the candidate's specialty (i.e., a record of publication, presentation, and/or performance) Experience in one or more of the following musical fields: theory, composition, technology, musical theater, music education Evidence of a commitment to student engagement Engagement in professional organizations
