Job Description

Oil Painting Instructor — 4-
Week Course Location:
Art Cafe SLC | 9th & 9th,
Salt Lake City Position:
Contract Oil Painting Instructor Compensation:
$16-$22/hour of teaching, based on experience
Schedule:
One evening per week for 4 consecutive weeks About the Role Art Cafe SLC is looking for a talented, warm, and approachable Oil Painting Instructor to lead a beginner-friendly 4-week oil painting course. We're looking for someone who not only loves painting, but also loves helping others discover their own creativity. Our classes are meant to feel welcoming, social, and approachable—not intimidating or overly formal. Over the course of four weeks, you'll guide students through the foundations of oil painting while helping them build confidence, explore their individual style, and complete paintings they're excited to take home. What You'll Teach The instructor will create and lead a progressive 4-week curriculum covering foundational oil painting techniques. Topics may include color mixing and color theory, brushwork and paint application, composition, value and light, layering and blending, working with oil painting materials, and developing a finished piece. The goal is for each week to build naturally on the previous lesson while still leaving room for students to experiment and develop their own artistic voice. Responsibilities As the instructor, you'll lead demonstrations and provide clear, approachable instruction throughout each class; offer individual feedback and encouragement; help students at different skill levels feel successful; communicate supply and material needs to Art Cafe in advance; help maintain a positive, inclusive classroom environment; and assist with reasonable setup and cleanup related to your class. Art Cafe will handle registration, marketing, customer communication, and the overall class logistics so you can focus primarily on teaching and creating a great experience for students. Who We're Looking For We're looking for someone who has a strong understanding of oil painting techniques and materials and is comfortable demonstrating those skills to beginners. Previous teaching experience is wonderful, but we're also open to experienced artists who are excited about teaching and have a natural ability to explain their process. The ideal instructor is friendly, patient, dependable, encouraging, comfortable speaking in front of a group, and able to make art education feel approachable rather than intimidating. Most importantly, we want someone who understands the atmosphere we're creating at
Art Cafe:
art is for everyone. Students don't need to consider themselves "artists" to walk through our doors and make something meaningful. Contract & Compensation This is a contract teaching position for one 4-week session , with the possibility of teaching additional sessions in the future if it's a great fit. Compensation is $16-$22 per hour of teaching , depending on experience. The course will take place one evening per week for four consecutive weeks at Art Cafe SLC in the 9th & 9th neighborhood. To Apply Please send us a short introduction with your oil painting background, any previous teaching experience, examples of your artwork or portfolio/Instagram if available, your evening availability, and a little about why you'd be interested in teaching at Art Cafe SLC. We're looking for someone who is excited to share their knowledge while creating a class environment where people can slow down, learn something new, connect, and create.
