ESOL Instructor & Curriculum Developer (Part-Time)

Job Description

Massachusetts Baptist Multicultural Ministries (MBMM) is seeking a passionate, creative, and experienced ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) Instructor to teach adult English learners while developing a comprehensive, year-round curriculum. This position combines direct instruction with curriculum planning. The instructor will teach one or more ESOL classes (Basic, Intermediate, and/or Advanced) based on program needs while designing engaging lesson plans and instructional materials that support measurable learner progress throughout the year. We welcome instructors who bring innovative teaching approaches and are excited to help build a high-quality ESOL program serving immigrant and refugee communities. Initially, this is a 10-hour-per-week contract position. As our program grows, there may be opportunities for expanded responsibilities and consideration for a full-time position based on organizational needs, funding availability, and performance. Responsibilities Instruction (2-4 hours/week) Teach ESOL classes at the Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced levels. Deliver engaging, learner-centered instruction in person and/or online. Foster an inclusive and supportive learning environment. Adapt instruction to meet the needs of diverse adult learners. Monitor student participation and learning progress. Curriculum Development & Planning (Approximately 6-8 hours/week) Design a comprehensive year-round ESOL curriculum for all instructional levels. Develop quarterly learning objectives and progression plans for each course level. Prepare detailed lesson plans, instructional activities, assessments, and learning materials. Recommend textbooks, digital resources, and supplemental instructional materials. Design placement and progress assessments to help learners advance between levels. Revise curriculum based on student outcomes and program feedback. Collaborate with MBMM staff to align instruction with program goals. Desired Curriculum Deliverables The selected instructor will be expected to develop a structured instructional framework that includes: Basic ESOL curriculum (year-round) Intermediate ESOL curriculum (year-round) Advanced ESOL curriculum (year-round) Quarterly learning objectives for each level Weekly lesson plans Student learning activities Homework and practice materials Assessment tools for measuring learner progress Recommendations for instructional resources and textbooks Suggested online learning resources and technology tools MBMM will provide reasonable instructional resources and materials needed to support implementation. Qualifications Required Bachelor's or Associate degree in TESOL, Education, Applied Linguistics, or a related field
ESOL/ESL
certification (state certification preferred) Experience teaching adult English language learners Excellent communication and organizational skills Ability to teach both online and in-person when needed Preferred Massachusetts
ESL/ESOL
teaching license Experience working with immigrants and refugees Curriculum development experience Familiarity with adult education standards (CASAS, BEST Plus, College and Career Readiness Standards, or similar) Experience using online learning platforms (Zoom, Google Classroom, Canvas, etc.) Compensation This is a 10-hour-per-week independent contractor position . Compensation is competitive and commensurate with experience. Successful performance, organizational growth, and future funding may create opportunities for expanded responsibilities or consideration for a full-time position.
