Job Description

Title:

High School Spanish Teacher

Minimum Qualifications:

1.Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

2.New Hampshire certification or eligibility to hold NH Certification.

3.Passing scores on any required exams such as the Praxis or state specific assessments.

Building Principal or designee

Job Goals:

1.Aim to reading and writing skills through diverse genres and media.

2.Utilize technology to foster interactive learning.

3.Continuously seek out professional growth opportunities, such as workshops or conferences focused on World Language teaching methods or new literature.

4.Develop strategies to increase student interest and participation in class, possibly through gamified learning or project-based assignments or performance assessments.

5.Regularly update the curriculum to include diverse, authentic, and comprehensible resources, ensuring that content is relevant and inclusive.

6.Strengthen the culture of collaboration by sharing resources and strategies with fellow teachers, through a professional learning community.

7.Improve the use of formative and summative assessments to better understand student needs and adjust teaching approaches accordingly.

8.Aim to provide more personalized guidance to students, especially those who might be struggling with the subject matter.

9.Provide essential support for the Priority Areas outlined in the SAU #34 Strategic Plan.

Performance Responsibilities:

1.Planning and Preparation

  • Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of the Spanish language with an emphasis on communication, grammar, composition, and diverse cultural experiences of the Spanish-speaking world.
  • Tailor instruction to meet the diverse learning styles of high school students.
  • Set instructional goals that promote critical thinking, intellectual growth, and effective communication skills.
  • Design coherent units and lessons that integrate interpersonal, interpretive, and presentational modes of communication.
    2. Classroom Environment
  • Create a positive and safe environment that develops and builds students' appreciation and understanding of language learning.
  • Establish a classroom culture that encourages students to engage in and value World Language learning and culturally relevant topics.
  • Manage classroom dynamics effectively to facilitate discussion, and collaborative activities while emphasizing the importance of respect for all.
  • Optimize the classroom layout to support a learning environment conducive to collaborative learning.
    3. Instruction
  • Communicate grammatical and cultural concepts clearly to students in order to make connections to previously learned material as well as fostering global awareness and appreciation
  • Employ a variety of strategies to guide students as they gain confidence in navigating and understanding a variety of authentic materials including print, online, and audio.
  • Candidate will actively engage students in the learning process through creative assignments, performance based tasks, culturally appropriate research, and age appropriate interpretive focused tasks.
  • Utilize assessments to monitor progress and adapt instruction to help students develop their communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Adapt lessons and activities to respond to student feedback and varying levels of comprehension.

  • Keep precise records of student participation, assignment completion, and progress in Spanish skills.

Working Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will constantly bend neck and back, use hands for repetitive grasping and pushing/pulling. The employee is frequently required to stand/walk, squat, kneel, and use hands for fine manipulation. The work requires some physical exertion such as long periods of standing; recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching or similar activities; recurring lifting of moderately heavy items such as books. Potentially exposed to ordinary infectious diseases as carried by students; exposed to student noise levels. Required to work outdoors in inclement weather; required to stand for prolonged periods. Duties may be occasionally performed on field trips away from school.
