K-6 Dogwood Charter School is seeking an enthusiastic and collaborative Part-Time Spanish Teacher to develop students' foundational Spanish language skills and appreciation for Spanish-speaking cultures within our small, mixed-grade school community. The Spanish Teacher will design age-appropriate instruction that prioritizes listening, speaking, vocabulary development, cultural understanding, songs, stories, conversation, and meaningful language use.
The Spanish Teacher will:
Provide developmentally appropriate Spanish instruction to students in grades K-6. Develop students' listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills at appropriate developmental levels. Emphasize oral language, conversation, pronunciation, vocabulary, and comprehension in the early stages of language learning. Incorporate stories, songs, games, movement, poetry, cultural traditions, and authentic materials into instruction. Introduce students to the diverse cultures, geography, traditions, and perspectives of Spanish-speaking communities. Plan instruction appropriate for mixed-age and mixed-ability groups. Establish clear routines and maintain a positive, engaging classroom environment. Assess student progress through observation, conversation, performance tasks, and other developmentally appropriate methods. Maintain appropriate records of student learning and provide feedback regarding student progress. Collaborate with classroom teachers and school leadership to integrate language learning with the broader school curriculum when appropriate. Participate in schoolwide events, professional learning, and faculty collaboration as appropriate to the position. Communicate professionally with students, families, colleagues, and administration. Perform other duties consistent with the role of a part-time world language teacher.
Required:
Proficiency in spoken and written Spanish. Strong communication and classroom-management skills. Ability to develop engaging, developmentally appropriate instruction for elementary-aged students. Ability to work effectively within a small, collaborative school environment. Ability to meet applicable Pennsylvania requirements for the assigned instructional role.
Preferred:
Pennsylvania certification in Spanish or World Language education. Bachelor's degree in Spanish, education, world languages, or a related field. Previous experience teaching Spanish to elementary or middle-grade students. Experience teaching mixed-age or multi-grade groups. Experience with proficiency-oriented or communicative language instruction. Experience incorporating literature, music, art, geography, and culture into language instruction.
Schedule:
Approximately 6 hours per week, including instructional and paid planning time. Schedule includes 3-4 40-minute instructional periods and a 60-minute Friday group lesson.
