Job Overview:

The Head Basketball Coach is responsible for leading and administering all aspects of the high school basketball program while fostering a culture of excellence, integrity, discipline, and sportsmanship. The coach is expected to develop student-athletes both on and off the court by emphasizing character, academic success, leadership, teamwork, and competitive excellence. The Head Basketball Coach will oversee all levels of the basketball program, collaborate with school administration and the Athletic Director, and serve as a positive representative of the school within the community. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Program Leadership Develop and communicate a clear vision, philosophy, and culture for the basketball program Establish high standards of sportsmanship, accountability, discipline, and character. Build positive relationships with student-athletes, parents, faculty, alumni, officials, and community members Promote the basketball program throughout the school and community. Foster a positive, inclusive, and competitive team environment. Player Development Plan and conduct effective practices focused on skill development, team concepts, conditioning, and basketball IQ. Teach fundamentals appropriate for all levels of the program. Develop individualized improvement plans for student-athletes. Monitor academic progress and encourage academic success. Promote leadership, responsibility, and personal growth. Program Administration Organize and supervise all varsity, junior varsity, and feeder program activities. Recruit, mentor, supervise, and evaluate assistant coaches. Coordinate practice schedules, game schedules, and off-season workouts in collaboration with the Athletic Director. Ensure compliance with all school, district, state athletic association, and conference rules and regulations. Maintain accurate records, eligibility documentation, inventories, and required reports. Manage equipment, uniforms, and program facilities responsibly. Game Management Prepare team strategy and scouting reports. Analyze opponents and implement game plans. Manage substitutions, player development, and game situations effectively. Model professionalism toward officials, opponents, and spectators. Ensure appropriate supervision before, during, and after contests. Communication Maintain consistent communication with parents regarding expectations, schedules, and program information. Work collaboratively with teachers, counselors, administrators, and support staff. Conduct preseason parent meetings Address concerns professionally and in a timely manner. Off-Season Program Development Develop a comprehensive off-season training program focused on skill development, strength and conditioning, and player growth. Organize summer workouts, camps, and team activities in accordance with school and state association guidelines. Encourage multi-sport participation while supporting the overall athletic development of student-athletes. Compliance and Safety Prioritize the health, safety, and well-being of all student-athletes. Ensure proper supervision at all practices, games, and team activities. Follow all emergency procedures and safety protocols. Complete all required certifications and professional development. FLSA Exempt Qualifications Previous successful coaching experience at the high school, collegiate, or comparable level preferred. Demonstrated knowledge of basketball fundamentals, offensive and defensive systems, player development, and practice planning. Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills. Ability to motivate and mentor adolescents. Commitment to academic excellence and character development. Knowledge of applicable state athletic association rules and regulations. Current CPR, First Aid, and any required coaching certifications (or ability to obtain before employment). Preferred Qualifications Teaching certification or eligibility for employment within the school. Experience leading a successful basketball program. Experience developing youth or feeder basketball programs. Strength and conditioning knowledge. Experience using video analysis and performance technology. Ability to build community support and assist with fundraising initiatives. Physical Requirements Ability to demonstrate basketball skills and drills. Ability to stand, walk, run, and actively supervise practices and contests for extended periods. Ability to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. Compensation Compensation is commensurate with experience and in accordance with the school's salary schedule and athletic supplement schedule.
