Company Description Little & Junior TrackStars is a youth development program dedicated to nurturing young athletes in track and field. The organization provides expert coaching, structured training, and consistent mentorship to help children grow both as athletes and individuals. Programs are designed to build confidence, discipline, and resilience through age-appropriate instruction and positive reinforcement. Little & Junior TrackStars emphasizes creating a supportive environment where participants develop a lifelong love of sports and healthy habits. Coaches work closely with families and the community to ensure a safe, inclusive, and engaging experience for all young athletes. Role Description The Youth Development Coach is a part-time position responsible for planning and leading track and field training sessions for youth in the Howard County (Laurel, Columbia and Ellicott City) and Montgomery County (Silver Spring) areas. Day-to-day responsibilities include teaching fundamental track and field skills, demonstrating proper techniques, supervising warm-ups and conditioning, and ensuring safety during practices and events. The coach will mentor participants, model positive behavior, encourage teamwork and sportsmanship, and help athletes set and work toward individual goals. Additional duties may include coordinating practice schedules, providing feedback on athlete development, and collaborating with other coaches and program staff to improve the overall program. Qualifications Experience in track and field coaching or competitive participation, with strong knowledge of training methods, technique, and safety practices, preferred. Background in youth development, mentoring, or teaching, with the ability to engage children of different ages and support their social and emotional growth. Strong communication and interpersonal skills for interacting with athletes, families, and colleagues in a clear, respectful, and inclusive manner. Ability to plan structured, age-appropriate training sessions, manage groups, and adapt activities to different skill levels. Reliable, organized, and comfortable working in a hybrid environment, including basic proficiency with email, scheduling tools, and online communication platforms. Commitment to creating a safe, non-discriminatory, and encouraging environment for all participants, regardless of background or ability. First aid/CPR certification or willingness to obtain it; experience working in community or school-based sports programs is a plus. Availability for afternoon, evening, or weekend practices and events in the defined territory.
