Job Description
Job Summary
The College of Aviation at Western Michigan University invites applications for an academic year, tenure-track faculty position. The College offers three distinct academic programs, providing faculty members the opportunity to teach within a specialized area of expertise or across multiple disciplines. Applicants will join a supportive and collegial environment that values collaboration among students, faculty, and staff. This position represents an exceptional opportunity to contribute to a dynamic academic community and to bring professional flight experience into the classroom to enhance student learning.
Major Duties:
Teach up to 12 credits in the fall and spring semesters for a total of no more than 24 credits of regularly scheduled courses, or the equivalent, over an academic year.
Fulfill ongoing department curriculum needs of both a maintenance and developmental nature.
Provide leadership and service to academic and professional societies through roles in governance, editorial work, conference coordination, and committee participation to support their effective and impactful operation.
Support university operations through committee service and consultation with campus and community stakeholders.
Assist students with course advising, consulting, and individual mentoring.
Encourage and support student involvement in student organizations and internships.
Engage in scholarly activities, including research, writing, and publication appropriate to the faculty member's discipline or interdisciplinary work.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in an aviation-related field from an accredited institution.
FAA pilot certification to include a minimum ATP or equivalent.
Significant related industry experience in one or more of the following areas:
Airline Flight Operations
Corporate/Business Aviation Flight Operations
Safety
Security
Human Factors
Excellent communication and computer skills.
Desired Qualifications:
Master's degree from an accredited institution.
College teaching experience.
Demonstrated history of research and grant writing.
