Adapted Physical Education Specialist (APE) for 2026-2027

Job Description

Job Overview EMIT Learning is seeking an experienced Adaptive physical education Specialist (APE) for an onsite contract position in Morgan Hills, CA for the 2026-2027 school year. Duties Develop and deliver individualized adapted physical education lessons aligned with students' IEP (Individualized Education Program) goals and educational standards Assess students' motor skills, physical abilities, and progress regularly to inform instruction and modify activities accordingly Collaborate closely with general education teachers, special educators, speech therapists, occupational therapists, and other specialists to create cohesive support plans Incorporate learning technology and educational technology tools to enhance student engagement and learning outcomes in physical education Implement behavioral management strategies and instructional modifications to support students with autism, developmental disabilities, visual impairments, deaf education needs, or other disabilities Communicate regularly with parents and guardians to update them on student progress, challenges, and successes in physical education Ensure compliance with all educational laws, regulations, and safety standards related to adapted physical education practices Requirement California APE credential/required authorization Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Adapted Physical Education, Special Education, Kinesiology, or a related field; Master's degree preferred Valid certification or licensure in adapted or special physical education Proven experience working with children with disabilities, including autism spectrum disorder, developmental delays, or visual/hearing impairments Strong knowledge of childhood development principles and inclusive teaching methodologies Familiarity with IEP development, educational compliance standards, and special education law Proficiency in instructional design, lesson planning, classroom management, and behavior management techniques for students with special needs Experience integrating educational technology tools into physical education curricula Excellent communication skills for effective collaboration with staff and families Ability to adapt activities for diverse learners while maintaining high engagement levels
Pay:
$40.00 - $50.00 per hour
