Under general direction, plans, coordinates, and delivers family literacy and adult basic education programming in partnership with a Plaza Comunitaria program; facilitates instruction for adult learners; supports program implementation and participant progress; and serves as a liaison between families, school sites, and community partners.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

This is a specialist-level classified position responsible for both instructional delivery and program coordination for adult learners. The incumbent independently facilitates structured learning activities using established curriculum frameworks (e.g., Plaza Comunitaria/INEA modules) and supports program operations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES

Plans, organizes, coordinates, and delivers family literacy and adult basic education instruction utilizing Plaza Comunitaria/INEA curriculum frameworks or other approved instructional programs. Develops lesson plans, instructional activities, and learning experiences that support adult learners in achieving literacy, numeracy, and educational goals. Facilitates instruction in reading, writing, language development, foundational mathematics, digital literacy, life skills, school readiness, parenting education, and strategies that strengthen family engagement in children's education. Assesses participant learning needs and adapts instructional methods, materials, pacing, and delivery to accommodate varying educational backgrounds, literacy levels, learning styles, and language proficiency. Creates and maintains a safe, respectful, inclusive, and culturally responsive learning environment that encourages participant engagement, persistence, and educational success. Evaluates participant progress using established assessment tools and instructional benchmarks; provides individualized feedback, encouragement, and appropriate referrals to support continued learning. Coordinates program operations including participant recruitment, enrollment, orientation, scheduling, attendance tracking, instructional materials, classroom preparation, and program communications. Maintains accurate records and documentation related to participant attendance, enrollment, assessments, instructional progress, program outcomes, and required reports in accordance with District and program requirements. Conducts community outreach activities to recruit, engage, and retain participants through collaboration with schools, family resource centers, community-based organizations, and other public agencies. Serves as a liaison between adult learners, families, school personnel, and community partners to promote access to educational services and strengthen family-school-community partnerships. Assists participants in identifying educational, workforce development, language acquisition, and community resources that support personal and family success. Collaborates with administrators, teachers, counselors, family engagement staff, and community partners to coordinate services and support participant needs. Maintains compliance with Plaza Comunitaria/INEA program requirements, District policies, grant requirements, and applicable state and federal regulations. Attends staff meetings, professional development activities, and required trainings to maintain instructional effectiveness and program knowledge. Performs related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of:

Principles, methods, and practices of adult learning and adult basic education instruction. Family literacy concepts, strategies, and best practices that support educational success across generations. Instructional techniques appropriate for adult learners with varying educational backgrounds, literacy levels, and language proficiency. Curriculum development and instructional adaptation for multilingual and low-literacy learners. Methods for assessing learner progress and maintaining instructional records. Community outreach and participant recruitment strategies. Principles of family engagement and effective home-school-community partnerships. Cultural competency and culturally responsive instructional practices. Program coordination techniques, including scheduling, enrollment, participant orientation, and recordkeeping. Applicable federal, state, and District laws, regulations, policies, and procedures governing adult education and family literacy programs. Basic computer applications, including word processing, spreadsheets, presentation software, email, online instructional platforms, and student information or program management systems.

Ability to:

Organize work independently, prioritize assignments, and meet established deadlines. Utilize technology to support instruction, communication, reporting, and program administration.

MINIMUM ENTRACE QUALIFICATIONS

Education / Experience Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in education, adult education, bilingual education, child development, family studies, social sciences, human services, or a closely related field.

Three (3) years of increasingly responsible experience providing instruction, educational programming, family engagement services, community outreach, adult education, literacy instruction, or a closely related program serving culturally and linguistically diverse populations. Licenses /Certifications / Special Requirements Ability to speak, read and write in Spanish to carry out the essential functions of the job class.
