Typical Work Schedule:

Tuesday - Friday, 9:00 am - 2:00 pm. Occasional evening and weekend work is required. Position Summary The Museum Education Coordinator is the museum's primary educational representative, responsible for developing and delivering STEAM and Social Studies programs aligned with the North Carolina Standard Course of Study. The role conducts historical research, leads school and community outreach, and creates educational resources that connect audiences with the history of Kings Mountain and the museum's collections. The Coordinator serves K-12 students and educators across Cleveland and Gaston Counties—public, private, charter, and homeschool—through curriculum‑aligned field trips, "History in a Box" traveling trunks, Junior Archivist Passports, and other hands‑on learning experiences. Working closely with the Museum Director, this position strengthens the museum's role as a community educational resource through partnerships with schools, civic organizations, and the public. This grant‑funded position is supported by the Catawba Nation Foundation. Essential Responsibilities Develop, coordinate, and present curriculum‑based programs for students, teachers, adults, and community groups. Create lesson plans, educational materials, and hands‑on learning experiences for multiple grade levels. Coordinate onsite and outreach programming, including school visits, field trips, and traveling resources. Conduct historical research to support exhibits, programs, and special projects. Interpret museum collections and develop educational resources using artifacts and archival materials. Build partnerships with educators and civic/cultural organizations. Represent the museum at educational and community events and promote museum programming. Conduct program assessments, maintain records, prepare monthly activity and impact reports, and collaborate with museum staff and volunteers.

Qualifications Preferred:

• Bachelor's degree in History, Public History, Museum Studies, Education, American Studies, or a related field.
• Experience in museum education, classroom instruction, historical interpretation, or public programming.
• Knowledge of North Carolina curriculum standards.
• Strong research, writing, public speaking, organizational, and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively.

Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered. Must pass criminal background check. Working Conditions Work is performed in historic museum buildings. Position requires standing, walking, bending, and lifting up to 25 pounds.
