At the AIDS Center of Queens County (ACQC), our mission is to prevent HIV, STIs, and other chronic illnesses, and promote health and wellness in the communities we serve. This is accomplished by providing health education and intervention services using a harm reduction approach and evidence-based practices in a friendly, respectful, and culturally sensitive environment. ACQC is seeking a dedicated Health Education Specialist to join the AIDS Institute CSP program. The program's goals are to provide comprehensive education and prevention services to adults in the community, focusing on communities of color. for adults in the community, focusing on communities of color. Responsibilities for Health Education Specialist Assist with the day-to-day activities of the program. Conduct on-going needs assessment including a review of characteristics, statistics, and data to develop or design services that are specific, sensitive, and culturally relevant to the target populations. Conduct and coordinate peer outreach to target population in various venues, neighborhoods, or areas where potential participants may congregate. Provide individual health education and risk reduction counseling. Recruit peer educators. Conduct group interventions to target at risk populations in Queens. Conduct community presentations to increase awareness of the program and promote recruitment into program interventions/activities. Delivery of
CTR - HIV
Testing intervention. Provides Linkage to Care services. Follow up all referrals to assure clients' compliance, Maintain accurate and up-to-date client/peer chart records for program activities and CTR interventions. Enter data for all program activities weekly. Submit weekly program and activity progress reporting. Willing to be flexible with work schedule, which may include long hours, evenings, and weekends. Other duties as assigned by the Program Coordinator or the Director of Education & Prevention. Qualifications & Requirement for the Health Education Specialist Bachelor's degree in social science or health related field and one-year experience: or, some college coursework and three to four years work or field related experience Knowledge of HIV/AIDS and the communities most affected. Understanding of STIs and the risk factors. Fluency in one or more of targeted community languages and/or dialects preferred. This position is based in Woodside. The Health Education Specialist will be required to travel and workfrom all 3 ACQC sites: Woodside, Richmond Hills and Far Rockaway. Must be culturally competent and able to work with individuals from non-traditional backgrounds in terms of gender identity and sexuality. Must be able to convey sensitivity in a non-judgmental manner. The Health Education Specialist position is a full-time, non-exempt position, based in Woodside, Queens near the LIRR and #7 trains.
