SPECIAL EDUCATION DEPARTMENT SPECIALIST

Typical Schedule:

Monday-Friday 8:00 am•4:00 pm; Full-year position (260 day calendar).\nReports to: Assigned administrator/supervisor\n

Job Objective:

\nManages secretarial and office support services. Performs data entry related to special education programs.\n

Minimum Qualifications:

\nHigh school diploma or GED. Secretarial/office technology training and work experience.\nAbility to analyze and communicate complex information in easy to understand formats.\nAbility to implement principles of office administration (i.e., organization, procedures, etc.).\nDisplays flexibility, reliability, self-discipline and a willingness to take on challenging tasks.\nDocuments/maintains a record free of criminal violations that prohibit public school employment.\nEffective communication, problem-solving and time management skills.\nEmbodies high ethical standards/integrity. Accepts responsibility for personal decisions/conduct.\nFollows complex instructions. Recognizes and corrects errors independently.\n

Essential Functions:

\n1. Performs office management and ancillary duties that facilitate the timely attainment\nof service center objectives. Keeps informed about program/procedure changes.\nManages concurrent responsibilities effectively in a dynamic and challenging work environment.\nAddresses issues that arise during the supervisor's absence. Communicates actions appropriately.\nAssists with department orientation programs.\nChecks completed tasks to ensure compliance with specified standards.\nHelps develop effective solutions for work-related problems.\nAssumes responsibility for the results of delegated duties.\nCollects and organizes information. Verifies the accuracy of data. Creates documents, files records, maintains database information, prepares spreadsheets, etc.\nMaintains an effective records management system. Verifies deliveries with packing lists/purchase orders. Reconciles invoices for payment. Maintains an account ledger.\nProvides back-up support for other departments. Assists with special projects as directed.\nDiligently attends to job details. Pursues quality work results. Performs all aspects of the job.\n2. Exemplifies professionalism to enhance NwOESC and member district public images.\nEstablishes/maintains positive working relationships with all member districts and parents/guardians of students served through NwOESC programs.\nCommunicates with NwOESC employees and school district personnel in a professional and clear manner via phone calls, emails, and in the sharing of information related to students and services.\nEstablishes/maintains positive working relationships with all member school districts.\nDevelops mutually respectful relationships with co-workers. Functions as part of a cohesive team.\nMaintains an acceptable attendance record. Provides prompt notice of delays or absences.\nMaintains a professional appearance.
