Job Description

Dance Instructor — Michigan Dance Company Overview Michigan Dance Company is looking for a passionate, positive, and dependable Dance Instructor to join our MDC family! Although we care about providing the ultimate dance experience, at MDC, we also believe dance is about so much more than steps, trophies, and performances. We strive to help our students grow into confident dancers, kind teammates, hardworking individuals, and strong young people. We are looking for an instructor who shares that philosophy and genuinely loves working with kids. The ideal candidate is energetic, encouraging, knowledgeable, and able to create a classroom environment where dancers feel supported while still being challenged to grow. We are looking for someone who can balance high-quality dance education with positivity, structure, and FUN. This position may include recreational and/or competitive classes depending on the instructor's experience, strengths, and availability. Responsibilities Teach engaging, age-appropriate dance classes for a variety of ages and ability levels Create a positive, structured, and encouraging classroom environment Provide quality instruction in dance technique, terminology, musicality, performance, and choreography Develop choreography for performances, recitals, and/or competitions as assigned Challenge dancers to grow while recognizing that every student develops at a different pace Provide constructive corrections and feedback in a way that builds both skill and confidence Maintain strong classroom management and ensure the safety of all dancers Serve as a positive role model and encourage teamwork, respect, accountability, and good sportsmanship Communicate professionally with MDC staff, dancers, and families Collaborate with fellow instructors and contribute to a supportive, team-oriented studio culture Arrive prepared, dependable, and ready to give students a great experience each week What We're Looking For Strong dance background with knowledge of proper technique Previous dance teaching, assisting, coaching, and choreography experience Experience working with children and teens Ability to confidently manage a classroom while maintaining a positive atmosphere Enthusiastic, dependable, professional, and team-oriented Ability to connect with students of different ages, personalities, and ability levels Willingness to give corrections, set expectations, and help dancers reach their potential A genuine desire to make a positive impact on students both as dancers and as people Experience in multiple styles of dance is a plus Competitive dance experience is a plus but not required for all positions College dance experience or training is preferred Why MDC? Competitive pay based on experience. Opportunities may include weekly classes, choreography, private lessons, competitive teams, recreational classes, and/or substitute teaching depending on experience and availability.
