POSITION SUMMARY
The Fayette County Career & Technical Institute (FCCTI) is seeking an accomplished, collaborative, and student-centered educational leader to serve as Assistant Director . The Assistant Director is a key member of the FCCTI administrative team and works directly with the Executive Director to provide leadership for the Institute's instructional programs, students, faculty, staff, operations, and continuous improvement efforts. FCCTI seeks a visible, approachable, hands-on administrator who can build positive relationships while maintaining high expectations for students and staff. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong instructional leadership, sound judgment, excellent communication skills, and the ability to effectively manage the day-to-day challenges of a career and technical school. While previous career and technical education experience is highly valued, FCCTI also encourages applications from successful school administrators whose leadership experience and skills are transferable to the career and technical education environment.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
The Assistant Director will work collaboratively with the Executive Director and administrative team to: Instructional Leadership & Program Improvement Provide leadership, supervision, support, and evaluation of instructional staff and educational programs. Conduct classroom and laboratory observations, walkthroughs, evaluations, and instructional coaching. Support instructors in developing effective teaching, classroom-management, assessment, and student-engagement practices. Provide particular support to instructors transitioning from business and industry into the teaching profession. Promote project-based, hands-on, industry-aligned learning. Support the integration of mathematics, reading, science, and other academic standards into career and technical instruction. Analyze student achievement, technical assessment, credentialing, attendance, discipline, and program-performance data to identify areas for improvement. Assist with curriculum development, program evaluation, strategic planning, and continuous school improvement. Promote innovative instructional practices and the effective use of technology. Student Services, Discipline & School Climate Promote a safe, respectful, professional, and student-centered school culture. Assist with student discipline, attendance, behavior, and conflict resolution. Work collaboratively with students, families, instructors, counselors, sending school districts, and administrators to address student concerns. Maintain fair, consistent, and appropriate expectations for student behavior. Support student engagement, retention, achievement, career readiness, and successful program completion. Assist with student supervision throughout the school day and during school-sponsored activities. Support school safety, emergency preparedness, crisis response, and related procedures. Career & Technical Education Assist with the administration and continuous improvement of FCCTI's approved Career and Technical Education programs. Develop an understanding of Pennsylvania Career and Technical Education requirements and ensure programs remain aligned with applicable standards. Support industry credential attainment, technical assessments, work-based learning, cooperative education, internships, job shadowing, and apprenticeship opportunities. Work with instructors and industry partners to ensure curriculum, equipment, technology, and instructional practices reflect current workforce expectations. Support Occupational Advisory Committees and other industry-based program improvement efforts. Assist with the development and implementation of new programs and pathways based on student and regional workforce needs. Staff Leadership & Development Establish positive, professional relationships with faculty and staff. Assist with the supervision and evaluation of assigned personnel. Provide meaningful feedback, coaching, mentoring, and professional development. Assist with the recruitment, interviewing, selection, onboarding, and retention of high-quality employees. Help establish clear expectations and accountability while supporting employees in their professional growth. Foster collaboration among academic, technical, administrative, and support staff. Sending District, Family & Community Relations Build and maintain productive relationships with FCCTI's participating school districts. Communicate effectively with superintendents, principals, counselors, teachers, parents/guardians, and other educational partners. Support recruitment, orientation, enrollment, and promotional activities. Represent FCCTI professionally at meetings, community events, conferences, and other functions. Promote the value of career and technical education throughout Fayette County and the surrounding region. Business, Industry & Postsecondary Partnerships Establish and strengthen partnerships with employers, organized labor, workforce-development organizations, postsecondary institutions, community organizations, and other stakeholders. Engage employers and industry representatives in curriculum and program development. Support opportunities for students to gain authentic workplace experiences. Help identify emerging workforce needs and recommend program changes or additions. Promote pathways that allow students to transition successfully into employment, apprenticeship, military service, or postsecondary education. Administration & Operations Assist the Executive Director with the overall administration and daily operation of FCCTI. Assist with scheduling, staffing, facilities, budgeting, purchasing, equipment acquisition, grants, and other operational responsibilities. Support compliance with Pennsylvania Department of Education requirements and applicable federal, state, and local regulations. Assist with federal and state grant programs and other funding opportunities that support CTE programming. Maintain appropriate records, documentation, and reports. Participate in administrative meetings and Joint Operating Committee activities as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants must possess: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. Pennsylvania administrative certification appropriate for the position or eligibility and willingness to obtain the certification required for the position in accordance with Pennsylvania Department of Education requirements. Successful professional experience in public education with demonstrated leadership ability and experience working collaboratively with students, educators, families, and other stakeholders. Knowledge of effective instructional practices, curriculum, assessment, and student achievement. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrated organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities. Ability to effectively manage multiple responsibilities and priorities. Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate sound professional judgment. Ability to establish high expectations while developing positive relationships with students and employees. Required Pennsylvania employment clearances and all other conditions of employment required by law.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Preference will be given to candidates possessing one or more of the following: Master's degree in education, educational leadership, administration, curriculum and instruction, career and technical education, or a related field. Successful experience as a principal, assistant principal, career and technical education administrator, supervisor, or other educational leader. Experience working in or collaboratively with a Pennsylvania Career and Technical Center/Institute. Knowledge of Pennsylvania Career and Technical Education requirements and regulations. Experience supervising, observing, coaching, and evaluating instructional staff. Experience working with multiple school districts or educational organizations. Experience with student discipline, attendance, school safety, and building-level operations. Experience developing or implementing curriculum, project-based learning, or school-improvement initiatives. Experience analyzing student and program-performance data. Knowledge of special education and services for diverse learners. Experience with grants, budgets, purchasing, equipment acquisition, or program development. Experience developing partnerships with business, industry, organized labor, workforce-development organizations, and postsecondary institutions. Knowledge of work-based learning, industry credentials, technical assessments, apprenticeships, and career pathways.
