## About Us My Best Music Academy (MBMA) has served Metro Atlanta families for 20 years, growing from a single voice studio into a full music education ecosystem — private instruction, group classes, early childhood enrichment, and community programming through our nonprofit arm, My Best Music Project.
Our teaching is rooted in proprietary frameworks including the S.I.N.G. Method™ and Singing Athlete™ methodology, and our students perform in fully produced showcases and musical theater productions each season. We partner with Champions Afterschool All-Stars across 13 schools in DeKalb, Fulton, and Cobb counties, and hold a City of Atlanta recreation center contract serving 18 sites.
## The Role We're hiring a Musical Theater Teacher to lead group classes at afterschool and community sites and to provide one-on-one coaching for students preparing for auditions, competitions, and performances.
This is a hybrid role:
part traveling teaching artist, part studio coach. You'll work with young performers who are just discovering the stage as well as advancing students with real audition goals.
## What You'll Do
Afterschool & Community Group Classes
Deliver engaging musical theater curriculum to groups of elementary and middle school students at partner sites
Travel to assigned schools and recreation centers fully equipped with materials, music, and props
Teach the full triple-threat foundation: acting through song, basic staging and blocking, ensemble singing, and age-appropriate movement
Build toward end-of-session showcases or performance sharings
Manage classroom behavior and energy independently — no parents or aides in the room
Track attendance and submit session notes through our student management system
One-on-One Coaching
Coach individual students on repertoire selection, song interpretation, monologue work, and audition preparation
Prepare students for school productions, community theater auditions, competitions, and MBMA showcases
Build individualized development plans and communicate progress to families
Teach primarily at our East Point studio (2814 Norman Berry Drive), with some virtual coaching available
Productions & Showcases
Support seasonal MBMA productions and showcases through rehearsal coaching, staging assistance, and performance-day support
Collaborate with our voice, dance, and music theory faculty on cross-disciplinary programming
## What We're Looking For
Required
2+ years teaching musical theater, drama, or performing arts to children and youth (ages 5-18)
Strong vocal foundation — able to teach healthy singing technique and part-singing within an ensemble
Working knowledge of musical theater repertoire across eras and age ranges
Reliable transportation and willingness to travel to sites across Metro Atlanta
Ability to pass a background check (required for all school and municipal sites)
Professional, warm, and dependable communication with students, families, and site staff
Preferred
Degree or conservatory training in Musical Theater, Theater, Vocal Performance, or Music Education
Professional or regional performance credits
Experience directing or music directing youth productions
Piano proficiency sufficient to accompany warm-ups and simple rehearsal work
Choreography or movement direction experience
Familiarity with audition prep for competitive programs, arts magnet schools, or conservatories
## Schedule Afterschool classes run weekday afternoons, typically between 2:30 and 6:00 PM. One-on-one coaching is scheduled by availability, including weekday evenings and Saturdays. We'll build a schedule around your availability — this role can scale from a few sessions per week to a full teaching load depending on fit and interest.
## Compensation Competitive per-session rate, paid as an independent contractor (1099).
Rate is based on experience, session length, and program type. Travel-based site work is compensated at a higher rate than studio-based sessions. My Best Music Academy is an equal opportunity workplace. We welcome teaching artists of all backgrounds.
