See Duty Day Calendar Position Summary:
The Transportation Driver Trainer is responsible for conducting effective behind-the-wheel and classroom instruction for drivers and aides and supports the transportation department's safety mission. Serves as a substitute driver or may be assigned to a route as needed.
Essential Functions :
Assists the Director of Transportation, Transportation Supervisor and Transportation Safety & Training Coordinator (TSTC) in supporting District and department goals and objectives. Promotes a safety culture for all District vehicle operations. Conducts both classroom and behind the wheel training for bus drivers in order to obtain Commercial Driver's License and . Completes required training checklists and training documents to ensure all training requirements are completed by trainee(s). Trains staff on management of student behavior utilizing programs such as Menta and PBIS systems. Conducts white fleet training for district staff to operate Multi-function School Activity Buses (MFSAB). Prepares and presents in-service training and regulated safety training. Develops and presents training curriculum, classroom materials, PowerPoint presentations and videos in collaboration with the TSTC. Shall be assigned a group of bus drivers and bus aides (safety team) and will be responsible for providing recurrent training and freshening of driving skills to the group in collaboration with the TSTC. Utilizes driver safety technology and data to monitor driver performance and as a tool to improve skillsets. Coaches drivers, administers skills training and develops a course of action to improve driver skillset. Maintains Department of Public Safety Driver Trainer certification and keeps current on district, state and federal school bus policies. Assists with retrieving and reviewing bus video surveillance systems. Assists in the dispatch office as needed. Fills in as sub-driver, assigned to trips or a route based on operational needs and fulfills all Bus Driver job duties. Any other duties as designated by the Director of Transportation, Transportation Supervisor or Safety & Training Coordinator.
Training and Experience:
High School Diploma or GED Must be at least 21 years of age with four (4) years of general driving experience. Two (2) years of school bus driver CDL experience or any combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform essential duties of the job.
Licensing/Certification Requirements:
Valid Arizona Driver's License. Must possess a Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL), with S&P (School Bus and Passenger) endorsements, and Department of Public Safety (DPS) School Bus Driver Certification. Ability to obtain CPR Instructor, School Bus Driver Classroom Instructor, Behind the Wheel Instructor and Physical Performance Instructor certifications within 6 months of hire. Valid IVP Level 1 Fingerprint Clearance Card issued by the Department of Public Safety.
Skill In:
Entering and retrieving data and preparing reports using available computer software. Classroom facilitation and presentation. Use of Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Use of transportation technologies including GPS, driver/vehicle telematics and DVR camera systems.
