Education / Transportation Position Summary Cadenas Driving and Learning Services is seeking experienced and motivated CDL Instructors to join our team as we open our new driving school in McAllen, Texas. The CDL Instructor will be responsible for providing quality classroom and behind-the-wheel instruction to students preparing to obtain their Commercial Driver's License (CDL). The ideal candidate will have a strong background in commercial driving, excellent communication skills, and a passion for helping students develop the knowledge, skills, and confidence necessary to become safe and successful commercial drivers. Previous experience as a CDL instructor is preferred; however, qualified candidates with a minimum of three (3) years of commercial driving experience who are interested in becoming an instructor may be considered and trained. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Provide classroom and behind-the-wheel instruction to students preparing for their CDL. Teach students proper commercial vehicle operation, safety procedures, and defensive driving techniques. Instruct students on vehicle inspection, basic control skills, backing maneuvers, coupling and uncoupling, and road driving. Prepare students for CDL knowledge and skills examinations. Provide instruction consistent with applicable FMCSA Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT) requirements and current CDL standards. Familiarize students with modernized CDL skills-testing procedures and safety-critical inspection and driving skills. Demonstrate proper operation and handling of commercial motor vehicles. Evaluate student performance and provide constructive feedback to help students improve. Maintain accurate student training and progress records. Ensure all training is conducted in a safe, professional, and supportive environment. Reinforce federal, state, and company safety regulations and procedures. Monitor student progress and communicate areas requiring additional training. Maintain a professional and positive relationship with students, staff, and management. Maintain training equipment and report any vehicle or equipment concerns. Perform other related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Minimum of three (3) years of professional commercial driving experience. Valid CDL appropriate for the type of vehicle(s) being used for instruction. Clean and acceptable driving record. Strong knowledge of commercial vehicle safety practices and applicable regulations. Ability to communicate effectively and explain technical concepts in an easy-to-understand manner. Strong interpersonal, organizational, and time-management skills. Ability to work with individuals from different backgrounds and levels of driving experience. Preferred Qualifications Previous experience as a CDL Instructor, Driver Trainer, or Commercial Driver Trainer. Experience providing classroom or behind-the-wheel instruction. Familiarity with FMCSA Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT) requirements. Familiarity with modernized CDL skills-testing procedures. Experience training students for CDL Class A or Class B licenses. Experience with commercial vehicle inspection, backing, maneuvering, and road testing preparation. Candidates with the required commercial driving experience but no previous instructional experience may be considered and will be provided training as appropriate. Knowledge & Skills Strong understanding of commercial motor vehicle operations. Knowledge of CDL safety regulations and best practices. Ability to demonstrate and explain vehicle inspection and basic control skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Patient, professional, and encouraging approach to teaching. Ability to identify student strengths and areas requiring additional instruction. Ability to maintain accurate documentation and training records. Physical Requirements Ability to sit for extended periods while operating a commercial motor vehicle. Ability to stand, walk, bend, and enter/exit commercial vehicles. Ability to demonstrate vehicle inspection procedures and basic vehicle safety checks. Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions. Ability to safely perform duties associated with commercial vehicle training.
