Job Description
The Strategy Unit at Harvard Business School is seeking outstanding candidates for tenure-track positions at the assistant and (non-tenured) associate levels. We invite applications from candidates who focus their research on business strategy; on competitive interactions; on market or industry attractiveness; and on companies' positioning in markets. Successful candidates should have an interest in exploring the strategy challenges faced by firms and managers in the real world. HBS offers faculty the opportunity to interact with managers and business leaders. We are looking for candidates willing to embrace the opportunity to have their research inspired from these interactions, and who are motivated to produce research that has a real impact not only on scholars but also on practicing managers. Qualifications Faculty in the Strategy Unit have backgrounds in economics (theory or empirical), business administration, sociology, and related fields. What brings the Unit together is an aspiration to be the world's leading developer and disseminator of knowledge relevant to business strategists, through research rooted in practice and intensely engaging teaching. We offer a range of courses on topics including business unit strategy, corporate strategy, global strategy, strategy and technology, innovation strategy, strategy implementation, and competitive interactions. The Unit also supports a doctoral program in strategy. With time, candidates are expected to become strong, effective teachers. We encourage faculty to develop elective courses closely tied to their research agendas and to exploit complementarities between research and course development. We are interested in exceptionally strong candidates with discipline-based training and research skills. The successful candidate should have a strong interest in the concerns of practicing managers and excellent communication skills. Applicants should have outstanding records in a doctoral program, and strong demonstrated potential and interest to conduct research at the forefront of the strategy field. T eaching/
