Job Description

JOB SUMMARY
Primary purpose is to plan, organize, develop and direct the overall operation of the Activity department in accordance with federal, state and local standards, guideline and regulations, our established policies/procedures for Mountainside/Margaretville Hospital Swing Bed Program and as may be directed by the Administrator.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Plan, develop, organize, implement, evaluate, and direct the activity programs of Mountainside Residential Care Center/Margaretville Hospital Swing Bed Program. Assist in the development, administering, and coordinating of department policies and procedures. Review department policies/procedures, at least annually and participate in making recommended changes (e.g., ADA, ergonomics, air quality, etc.). Participate in community planning related to interests of MRCC and the services and needs of the resident and family. Participate in discharge planning, development and implementation of activity care plans and resident assessments Assist in the review and updating of department job descriptions at least annually. Assume the authority, responsibility and accountability of directing the activity department. Coordinate activities with other departments as necessary. Make written and oral reports/recommendations to Administrator concerning the operation of the Activity department. Review and develop a plan of correction for activity deficiencies noted during survey inspections and provide a written copy of such report to Administrator. Develop, implement, and maintain an ongoing quality assurance program for activity department. Ensure that all charted activity progress notes are informative and descriptive of the services provided and of the residents response to the service. Involve the resident/family in planning objectives and goals for the resident. Meet with Administration, medical and nursing staff, as well as other related departments in planning activity programs. Assist in the review and updating of departmental job descriptions at least annually. Others as deemed necessary and appropriate, or as may be directed by the Administrator. Maintain a productive working relationship with the medical profession and other health related facilities and organizations. Participate in regularly scheduled reviews of resident discharge plans and Care Planning. Attend department head meetings, etc. as scheduled or as may be called. Assist in the recruitment, interviewing and selection of personnel for activity department. Schedule department work hours (including vacation and holiday schedules. Assist in standardizing the methods in which activity programs will be performed and/or administered. Conduct departmental performance evaluations in accordance with Mountainside policies. Create and maintain an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest and positive emphasis, as well as a calm environment throughout Mountainside/Margaretville Hospital Swing Bed Program.
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS EXPERIENCE
Must have a minimum, two (2) years experience in a social or recreational program within last five years, one (1) of which was full-time in a patient/resident activities program in a health care setting.
EDUCATION
Must possess a high school diploma; degree preferred but not necessary.
LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS
Must complete a training course approved by New York State. OTHER Must have, as a minimum, two (2) years experience in a social or recreational program.
