Job Description

Norfolk Public SchoolsNorfolk, Massachusetts Long-Term Substitute Teacher Elementary Teacher Grade Level:

Grade 5

Assignment Dates:

October 13, 2026 until February 1, 2027 Elementary Long Term Teacher Substitutes serve as a temporary educator assigned to cover a classroom for the duration of the permanent teachers absence, providing instructional continuity. The Long-Term Substitute helps to ensure a seamless educational experience for students by providing high-quality instruction and classroom management in the absence of regular staff.

Essential Job Functions:

This position requires a teaching license, to provide long term sub coverage for a teacher over 90 days.



Maintain established classroom routines and expectations to minimize disruption.



Foster a safe, inclusive, and respectful learning environment using the schools specific behavioral frameworks.



Responsible for following the teachers substitute plans while using technology to provide continuity of instruction.



Follow attendance procedures to ensure accurate record keeping.



Maintain and complete grading to align with the school schedule.



Collaborate with specialists and meet specific needs of students, as appropriate.



Leave a detailed report for the permanent teacher regarding what was accomplished and any notable student behavior, as well as grading to ensure a smooth transition.



Modify teaching methods on the fly to meet the diverse needs of students, including those with IEPs or 504 plans.



When not covering a full class, provide "push-in" support to assist lead teachers with reading or math intervention groups.



Actively supervise students during non-instructional times, including morning arrival, recess, lunch, and bus dismissal.



Promptly report any student issues to the Principal.



Performs all other tasks as assigned by the Principal.

Skills and Qualifications:

Long-Term Substitute Teachers require a Bachelor's Degree.



Long-Term Building Substitute Teachers require Massachusetts DESE Teaching License.



Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.



Demonstrated aptitude for successful fulfillment of assigned performance responsibilities.



High level of flexibility and emotional intelligence.



Report to the building every day at the designated staff start time.



Ability to remain active throughout the day, including standing for long periods and moving between classrooms or playground areas.

Salary:

$191.00/Day
