This role replaces traditional specials with a cohesive program focused on health and physical education standards, that has elements of classic "gym class"--games, movement, fitness, and fun--and builds on it to emphasize the values and content of

sportsmanship/citizenship, and self‐regulation, using outdoor spaces and the school farm for authentic practice. The FWW teacher will be a four‐days‐per‐week presence and a visible leader of school culture, bringing the values "Be Kind, Be Safe, Be Curious, Be Proud" to life through routines that foster self‐regulation, responsibility, and joyful engagement with physical activity and the natural world. Our school sits on a 25‐acre woodland campus, offering rich opportunities for outdoor exploration and farm‐based work. • Teach a four‐days‐per‐week PreK-6 program grounded in Massachusetts health and physical education standards (movement, fitness, wellness, safety).
• Use the school grounds, gymnasium, and farm as primary classrooms where students learn through fun and high-engagement physical activities that apply health and physical education skills in real tasks and projects.
• Lead school culture by modeling "Be Kind, Be Safe, Be Curious, Be Proud" in daily routines and lessons.
• Teach and reinforce sportsmanship, teamwork, conflict resolution, and responsible independence.
• Use Restorative Practices to help students work through challenges, repair harm, and contribute positively to the community.
• Support students in building self‐regulation so they return to classrooms ready to focus and learn. Collaboration and operational duties
• Collaborate with classroom teachers around shared expectations for sportsmanship, citizenship, self‐regulation, and conflict resolution.
• Participate in weekly after‐school collaboration and professional learning.
• Maintain materials and spaces for outdoor learning, farm experiences, and wellness programming.
• Communicate with staff and families about program goals and student experiences.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the principal. Qualifications
• Holds, or is eligible for, appropriate Massachusetts teaching licensure, with preference for Health/Family and Consumer Science ("All grade levels"); Physical Education PreK-8 also considered.
• Experience or strong interest in health and wellness education, outdoor or farm‐based learning, or experiential elementary teaching.
• Strong ability to work with students in grades PreK-6 and build positive, consistent relationships.
• Skill in classroom management and student support, emphasizing self‐regulation, restorative approaches, and inclusive community building.
• Commitment to equity, inclusion, and culturally responsive practices.
• Creativity, flexibility, and enthusiasm for shaping a new program. Mission‐aligned opportunities (optional, supported) The FWW Teacher is encouraged—but not required—to connect health and wellness work to broader academics when it fits naturally, such as:
• STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics) and inquiry (observation, measurement, data collection, design challenges) during outdoor or farm experiences.
• Reading, reflection, or writing tied to nature, wellness, or community.
• Purposeful use of the library for independent work habits and wellness‐related reading or research.
